What knife will you pass on to your son or daughter? What makes it important?

I recently received a box of knives from my grandfathers estate, I'll post pictures later.

For me it's my Easy Pocket Congress by GEC. It's been a trusted tool, traveled the world and accompanied me into two war zones. I have other knives that get some pocket time but once the novelty wears off I always come back to this...

Not something I think about. I view knives as sort of a disposable item although if somebody I care about wants a particular knife, I'll put their name on it.

I have my great grandfathers old timer 8OT that was in his pocket when he passed, it was used by him and shows a nice patina but all the blades are full and it's in great shape. It went to my dad first and he gave it to me a few years after he got it, it will go to my son when he is ready.

Like Jeff says - all of them. Once dead I won't need any knives. I don't have any descendants so there's no one to inherit them. I'd assume they'll get sold in an estate sale and make some bargain hunter happy.

I'm not sure what I will have when the time comes to pass them on, but I can definitely see myself hanging onto my Buck 110, and thats the one I'd like to see my son get.

Folding Buck knife. My dad bought it for me years ago at the Orange County gun show in California when I was 18. It stayed on my hip in a leather sheath for many years, until I went to lighter pocket folders with clips. I'll pass it on to my Son when he is 18, just for consistency! :D

That knife has some character. Great looking knife.
I am hoping my son would take them but you never know. My Uncle who passed several years ago had a great collection. His son - my cousin has no interest in them. So when I go I hope they go to someone that will enjoy them.

I certainly won't be taking any with me! I may be able to pass on a few, but will try to get them passed out on here, that way I know they'll be going to a good home. Don't start squabbling just yet though! :D

maybe I'm just morbid but I think about it, all of them will get passed on of course, but my "new heirloooms" are probbaly these two

I have birth year knives for my kids (sodbuster jr's, figure there good to cut your teeth on) and they'll get them as they reach some sort of mile stone I'm sure, my son already has "his" knife - a red SAK, i forget the model - that he can use sometimes when he asks. He picked it out one day out of the group :).

Whoa. How did you ever wear down that shield so fast?

As to what knives I'll pass on it depends on which ones my kid(s) associate with me. I'll give them the knives that stir memories of dear old Dad. But they'll be kitted out pretty well, they are sure to get at least a slipjoint or two, a SAK, a puukko, and a khukuri.

Oddly enough I've already decided to pass on a couple of knives, though not to my daughter. My wife told me one day that she wanted my KHnutbuster. It's the only knife she's expressed interest in, so it now resides in her jewelry box. She let's me take it out occasionally so that I can oil it, sharpen it, and such.

My clip point Charlow is going to my nephew. We were at a party this past weekend, when he came up to me complaining about a bothersome shirt tag. I took out my trusty knife and made short work of the offender. As he looked at the Charlow he noticed the TC stamp on the bolsters.

Nephew: "That's cool! Are the letters for Tito (Uncle) Christian?"

Me: "That's very observant of you. As a matter of fact the initials T & C do stand for Tito Christian." ;)

None!

I told the family to stick me in a wooden boat of some kind, on top of a bunch of dry brush, dowse with gas and shove it out on the Chesapeake bay for a Viking funeral. My precious in my pockets and a full bottle of Evan Williams on board.

They probably won't do that, so all my precious's will be given away in my last days. Unless I keel over suddenly with the big one. Then it's every man for himself. My younger boy wants the resolza.

Carl.

Evan Williams huh? My best friend and I shared a bottle of the single barrel last winter while we watched the Pacquiao-Marquez fight. Good stuff. Helped me to drown the sorrows of a sixth round KO. :(

Why are you going to mess up a perfectly good boat ;) :D?

If I have kids, they get them all. Sell them, carry them, give them away, I won't be using them.

I shall hand my Sgian Dubh down to my first son, should I have one. If no sons, then my first daughter. If neither, I'm buggered.

I told my wife who to give knives out to ifvsomething happens to me. However, there are some knives that stay and move down in the family though: a birth year Sebenza for my daughter and the Sebenza that matches our wedding day
