What knife would you carry as a marine?

Probably not all that different from what I've seen my fellow soldiers carry and that would be whatever is available cheap at the PX. Cold Steel, Ka-Bar, etc. even in the military knife nuts are the exception not the norm. And just like the general public a lot of soldiers don't see much difference between a Gerber and SOG. Though Benchmade's are very much desired/respected.

BTW I deployed with my SOG Seal 2000, a buck strider tarani, an endura, and my leatherman charge and came back with a Benchmade presidio auto I bought at Bagram px and a Kukri I bought at the bazaar.

It seems to be a wide variety of knives that ive seen marines with. It seems more important that they have one then which one. I would guess many of them are going by others recommendations,or advice.

Ontario Abaniko: I designed it originally for the USMC...taught use for PSD SOCOM/ CENTCOM....I'm by McDill....the USMC bayonet took priority at one point. There's lots of Abanikos OC in OEF.. email me and I'll send you direct to the guys there using & teaching it.

Bark River Bravo 1. Do a quick search for the background of this knife with Marine Recon. That aside, it's just a great all purpose knife - not too large, not too small.

I was an active duty Marine for 4 years and was never "issued" a KaBar. The USMC didn't issue me any knife.

That being said, my EDC while serving was a Gerber Multitool. Fixed blades were frowned upon unless you were in the field and/or away from garrison.

back in the day i carried a gerber bmf (no sawback). kabar stayed in the rear with the gear.

Yea I'm not sure that the Corps. or the army get a "standard issue" knife these days. Back when I sold knives, parents or friends of soldiers would come in and ask me to help them pick the best knife for their son/daughter/friend who is in Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. My buddy just got out of USMC basic, and I asked him if he got issued a knife and he said not yet. So Idk.

But I'd want either a Becker BK2, BK7, or Rat Cutlery RC-6. and a multitool.
