What Knife would you Choose?

This is just kind of a question that I am asking just because I think it would be interesting for discussion. You have $75 and you have to pick 1 knife to use for the next year. You can use no other knives for anything. What would you pick and why? Can't wait to see the answers lol.

At that price point I'd say the Manix2 is hard to beat. I think the BD1 is the only version below $75.

And I have to say that I find it laughable that a knife like the BM 707 Sequel with its small size and 154CM steel is $140 when you can get a robust Manix2 with G10 and S30V for $55 less. I like BM but their pricing is quite out of whack on some of their knives. My opinion , of course.

1. Can it be any knife that's $75 or under, or only knives we currently own? If it's a used knife that we own, how do we determine its price?

2. Does the "no other knives" thing include kitchen knives, machetes, the knives on multi-tools, etc.? Because if it includes kitchen knives then my choice is definitely going to be an 8" chef's knife, as that is completely indispensable to me.

Either the benchmade mini grip Or id go on eBay and find an s30v manix 2

1. Any new knife under $75

2. Yes, you are no longer allowed to use any other knife for any reason.

I always recommend an alox Swiss Army Knife on threads like this. I'm a broken ol' record but at least I'm consistent... :)

Strongly agree. If no kitchen knives are a part of the deal it would likely be a Tojiro DP Gyuto. It would suck to do my EDC cutting with something stupid and improvised, but I could if I really needed to.

If, on the other hand, I could still use my kitchen cutlery I'd probably grab an Endura. It's not my favorite knife, but it's big enough to be comfortable, light enough to carry regardless of what I'm wearing and it cuts well.

Off the top of my head probably and S30V Blur or a BK2 for a fixed blade... both around $70 and USA knives. I'd rather spend $150 though and do it in the marketplace here. I'd probably get a ZT... like an 0801 or a Spyderco PM2. Even though it isn't real fancy or light, I still love the 0566. It just fits right. I could use a 0566 for a year.

It'd also be interesting to use a traditional worker for a year... like a GEC Bull Buster :)

Depends what the buyer does with her/his knives. My wife would pick a 7" chef's knife at the max price point because cooking is her love. I would pick an SAK like my Trekker/GAK because I need a multi tool around the barn and a one hand opener that cuts well. I've used it for food, opening bales of hay, boxes, mail, removing splinters, gutting fish and rabbits and birds, repairing the BMW R75/6, trimming shrubs, and lots else.

My review of it is here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1199045-Mini-Review-Victorinox-Trekker-German-Army-Knife?highlight=gak%2Ftrekker

If you can find a Manix 2 for that price, then that is the way to go.
Otherwise I would suggest a Kershaw Blur or a Spyderco Tenacious.
I own all 3 of these models and I think they are the best values in this price range. I did manage to find a used Manix 2, the 154CM model, for less than $75.

Yes, those are important questions. My kitchen knives are the most used and all cost less than the question price.

And if it is a knife that is used it would be this 710 that I got here off the exchange for under the specified price.

If I really couldn't use any other knife it'd probably be my Baryonyx Machete because I designed it for application versatility. I'd have to get creative with it for kitchen use, but it'd be doable. The range of cutting tasks I have is really very broad, so it's difficult to distill all of that down into just one tool. That's the one I'd feel the least held back by, though.

$75 limit you say. Only knife for a year you say. Ok, I'll give this a shot.

I'd buy a bk14 for $35-$40. Then use the rest for some TKC scales. Slip it in the pocket for work, wear it on the belt not at work.

It would probably be a Victorinox Swibo chef knife, and a RAT 1.
No WAY I'm going a year without at least a halfway decent kitchen knife.

In that case I'd get a Mac Knives 6.5" Santoku, which comes in at $74.95 on Amazon. I love to cook, and even if I hated it I'd still have to do it, and there is absolutely no substitute for a proper chef's knife.
