What knife would you like to bequeath to your favourite grandson or grand-daughter?

Besides leaving a million or two to your loved ones, let's say you want to leave something that has much significance in your life, for example, your favourite knife.

The scene is like this: You are at the tail-end of a long and wonderful life. You want to pass on something special to someone really close to you. It could be a grandson, as I have said.

Which knife would it be? You are now thinking of his future. You will not be part of his future as it has been so decreed. So now, this knife of yours will carry your memories for you to him.

Look at all your knives in your free time and think about it.

Make Love your strongest weapon. Compassion your shield and forgiveness your armour.

I would leave my well used LMF (he could treat like i did...a cheap knife you used on everything.)And one to show off to his grandchildern...Going to srart making that one today.

Just two ('cause by the time my time's up, my users will be beat to hell!). I'd leave 'em the Robeson and Schrade Walden two-blade jacks that my Grandma gave me. Both had been her dad's. They're quite worn, and certainly not worth much to anyone else. But I wouldn't trade 'em for a bucket full of Sebenzas.

I'd like to leave him the first knife I made. It's a little rough, but hopefully it'll mean something to him.

Heck, maybe it'll even be *worth* something--y'know..."This is the first thing that So-and-So EVER made!!"

My Benchmade 705. While it wasn't my first knife (a Victorinox something-or-other), it was the first knife I carried on a regular basis. Of course, I'd probably pass along any others that I had. Y'know, so it wouldn't be lonely

I have always liked knives, and have a victorinox spartan I have used as my backpacking knife for years and years. My sister and I have a deal though.I buy some fairly nice knives for one reason or another, and she gets it if I cut myself with it. Right now she uses a Grohmann #1 for here mushroom collecting that I owned briefly, and she has a nice collection of fishing knives to choose from. She is looking forward to owning my recent carry knife, my first single hand opener, a "Benchmade" axislock. I imagine she will have a bucket full of knives complete with a map of which one caused what scar to pass on to my heirs. She tells me she thinks co-ordination skips a generation. If not, she will probably give them to somebody elses kid.

None. I'm taking em all with me when I die. AHAHAHAHAHAHA! Sorry, that must have been my evil twin. On a serious note, I would probably give them one of my old eye brand stockman knives.

This one here.

It was designed and built specifically for an heirloom piece to be handed down. Hopefully it lasts through my son. He's a one man tornado and could just about destroy anything. Hopefully I can teach him respect for knives before my wife gets ahold of him and teaches him to fear them.

Great thread, Golok.

I have to hope that I have a bit of future in which to obtain a better favorite knife than I now own. Given my present dream, I'll leave my favorite grandson my Hossom fighter. If stuck with what I now own, there's no doubt it will be the KaBar by my bed. I hope to never use it, but got it mostly because it was my EDC for 19 mos in 'Nam. My favorite granddaughter at this stage, would probably get my LUS, or any other of my CRKT "collection." If I get a dream knife yet, it will be some folder by Thomas Haslinger.

Kneecleaver -- great handle and post. Welcome to the forums! If I should suddenly decide to get single again, does your sister currently enjoy that status? I can't imagine a better woman/dowry than a bucket of knives.

Velitrius -- nice knife! And re the wife fearing knives, I share your pain -- one reason to consider singlehood.

Haven't really thought about that but now that you mention it, would be from my small collection of customs: Probably my trusty Sebenzas (if they last that long).

One other thing: I would give away my prized knives to another knife knut. If any of my own children or grandchildren fall in this category so much the better. Else I would much prefer to give them to somebody else who knows what they mean. Better a complete stranger who loves knives get my RJ Martin Kozuka or Carson M4 than somebody who is just gonna flog them off on Ebay for a mint before my body is cold.

I actually had my grandpa leave me a knife before he died a little while ago. He left me his very simple, very sharp advertisement knife from the 50's. It was his EDC and was used very often. I keep it in a Spyderco box with all the rest of my memories of him. It was a very simple, but very meaningful gift that I wouldn't trade for anything.
Good Luck,
Matt

Being a martial artist I would most likely leave him the knife I used most frequently. The one that was always with me, the one I integrated the most into my training. I have my Grandfather's WWI army saber that he rode into battle with and it means the world to me. I never knew him and I would have liked to. Especially now. Peace favor your sword Grandfather.

I have several of my grandfather's knives and I plan to give them to my nephew when he is old enough and also to my niece so no one can say I am gender-biased.

My small sebenza has "C.D. Fleischer" on it, but my large will just have "Fleischer" on it so that it can belong to anyone in the family.

I think I would leave my vintage Puma stag handled fixed blade, an old Case Trapper that I have had and carried most of my life, and hopefully I will have a nice custom that I have designed by then. Creative thread!

Thanks,

The 1910 Marble's 7" Ideal with stag handle that was my grandfather's hunting/camp knife. He burned his name into the leather sheath years ago.

Well, I only have 1 grandson so he gets them all....something well over 100 knives at this point in addition to the ones I have already given him to "keep in HIS box" at my house.

Good topic, and one I've been pondering for a while. My thoughts at the moment are to have a custom knife made with ivory handles, and then have our family coat of arms scrimshawed onto the handle (in color, of course). That knife would be for my son. I haven't figured out what I would do for my daughter - sort of depends how "into" knives she becomes. As for my wife, she gets the rest of the knives for whatever purpose she desires. After all, she put up with me buying them...only seems fair.
