What knife would you take on "Alone" (History Channel Show)

Recently I started to get into the show Alone on History Channel. It actually inspired me to buy my new LT. Wright Genesis (awesome knife a few of the people on the show have used). So as the title says - what knife would you choose and why?

PS. I cant believe there is not a thread on this already. I did a search and didn't see any, but "alone" is a really common word. If I missed something - my apologies.

My wife also like the show. She isn't at all into knives (outside of good kitchen knives) so I asked her out of my small current collection of knives what she would take on the show if she was to go. She said she would take the Genesis because of handle comfort and the right size and balance for most tasks. (Her options from my collection - LT. Wright Genesis, KOA bush camp, Enzo 95, Helle GT, KOA Wolverine, Helle Eggn, ESEE 4, Tops CAT, handful of folders and a leathermen multitool).

I've never seen the show, and I really want too. It sounds right up my alley!!!

If I was allowed just one blade, I'd take an ESEE Junglass and I'd baby it. Lets face it, if you have just one blade and it breaks, you've really messed up.

Its a great show. I should have added to those commenting "no spoilers please" lol. The Junglass would be a great choice and I am with you on going easy on whatever you took. Its really interesting what people bring on the actual show. One guy has been on two separate seasons (done well so far) and just takes a cheep Mora.

For those who haven’t seen it, you get to bring a few tools with you. So it’s not like you need a “do it all” knife. The knife really gets to just be a knife, and you can bring an axe for chopping and splitting.

I’d take my Becker BK16. That thing has been through some serious heavy use and never let me down. I’d trust it implicitly.

Out of the knives that I have I'd probably take my custom made pugio and give it a shot. It is theorized the Romans used it for utility purposes as well as combat even when it was made out of iron or mediocre steel. Mine is made from spring steel. It isn't all that pretty. But, there was a christmas when I couldn't set my christmas tree on the base because they didn't trim it right. I had to remove the lower branches myself. I tried my mora companion MG, a little saw from a SAK-like knife, and the pugio. The most effective out of all was the pugio. I was amazed and appreciated it a bit more.

KaBar Turok and a Leatherman if I was using my personal budget.

If money was no object I’d take a custom 9 inch blade with full convex grind, with Micarta handle and in CPM 3V. Handle would have lower finger guard but flat handle to blade transition with no jimping on the top. The top of the blade would have saw serrations about 7 inches in length leaving the last inch smooth to the handle and also the tip. No swedge. Kydex sheath with a dangler and a with sharpener holder and firesteel slot. So many talented makers out there it would be hard to pick though...

TM Hunt M-18 and TM Hunt Yuma in a custom piggy back rig.... and a 24 inch bow saw..... first 3 of my 10 items

What knife would i take ?

If I was leaving tomorrow then it would have to be my Buck 119, but I've got something on the way that I'd take if I was leaving next week.
Said knife is at least 100 years old, but I think I'd still take it.

It's important to note the premise of the "Alone" series. While one season did include a link up of a pair, the majority of time is focused on a base-camp and limited traveling. With that in mind, and the limited resources allowed, I would opt for a larger fixed blade in the 10-12" in range. My two top options would be my Bill Siegle Hoodlum (far right in the group photo), or the Condor HD Kurkri with Kydex sheath.

A large blade is just a massive advantage in this scenario. Now, if we're talking about trekking off-trail for a significant distance, my choice would like favor a smaller fixed blade...

Never seen the show that i recall but any time i am asked "what knife" i always reply Ontario SP 10 Marine Raider.......unless the question is what i cut my pancakes with and that answer is a KA-BAR USMC MKII but that is only if i am in public at like McDonalds, if i am at home the answer is still the Ontario SP10 Marine Raider.

Alan in season one has that Condor in a custom sheath.

I wouldn't take a mora, but they probably work great gutting a mouse, lol The garberg used on the exchange is good bang for the buck, but I'd bring more knife.

Big blade would just cut the mouse in one chop, lol

I'd like an LT Sospes in 3v, upcoming Barky 1.5 lt (elmax would rock, 3v ok too) or maybe a GNS in 3v(I have one on the way!!!! 5 or 6 inch version would rock too), Genesis in Full flat or scani didn't do it for me.

I would use it so sparingly, cut cordage on same spot, fishing line there as well. No batoning, and go easy on notch building for traps(I would be a fishing fool though)

I don't know for sure, but it looks like bears and Mtn lion are off limits for trapping(game laws perhaps), we will see if Mongolia is different.

They have a great concept, I hope it continues. Fingers are crossed(but unlikely) commercialization doesn't encroach, or everyone will have a bushlore in a basket they give you with your other items, ala chopped.

I sure wish they had a big cannon sound when someone taps.

Such an awesome show. Watching right now on Netflix. I've seen 3 seasons twice . Very interesting..

Knife I would bring is a BK9 or Buck Ron Hood Thug.

Or maybe one of my Ruanas. 1095. Solid construction. Loong history

Machete or chopper. Much of the work involved making the secure camp...and that takes some heavy work.
Also, not too happy with those huge brown bears nosing around camp in the middle of the night.

I am torn between bringing a large knife or a midsized one.
If I were to bring a large one, it would be my ScrapYard 711, SR101 steel.

A midsized knife would be my BattleHorse Scout Platoon. (Or patriot scout/PLSK whatever the name of the knife is, can't remember).
O1 tool steel.

Both my 711 and Batthehorse are very easy to sharpen, which is a major factor in my choice.
Since a sharpening tool is not part of their gear, unless you bring a multitool with a file, ease of sharpening would be appreciated.

I would then bring a leather belt to hold my pants up, and then load that belt with very fine grit clay, to work as a strop.

At the end of the day I would probably bring my BattleHorse.
