Now that Zero Tolerance, Spyderco, Kershaw, Benchmade/HK and others have their 2016 catalogs out i thought it would be interesting to see what everyone is planing to buy for 2016.
I have already added the Spyderco Mantra, Southard Tolk and a microtech scarab executive to my collection in 2016 (yea its been an expensive month for knives!)
The mantra was the only new to 2016 knife. I have several other new for 2016 knives i want to get, im going to have to narrow it down though since there are quite a lot of new models i would like to get but i probably wont be able to afford to get them all.
My #1 pick for 2016 is the Zero Tolerance 0804CF which is based on Todd Rexford's "Gamma" It has a 3.9" CTS-204p blade and a total weight of only 5.1oz
I have a ZT0801 which is also a rexford design and it is the best built production knife Ive used, so I'm hoping this new Rexford will be just as good (hell the 0801 is so nice that even if this model was only half as good it would still be a great knife
)
My #2 is the new Benchmade 490 Amicus. It is an AXIS® Assist flipper that sports a 3.2" CPM-S90V blade. The blade is also only 0.090" thick which should make this knife a very good slicer (I really prefer thin blades, I am very careful with my knives and don't abuse them or try to use them as pry bars. So a thick blade not only adds extra weight it also hurts the cutting performance of the knife). This knife comes in at a very light weight 2.88 ounces.
Knives #1 and #2 are ones that I will for sure be buying, the next couple knives are ones I really like but im not 100% sure if i will buy them
My #3 pick is the zero tolerance 0095BW. I really like the design of this knife but im not a fan of the black wash finish so i will either wait for them to offer it in a silver or solid black finish, The other option is to just refinish the blackwash version. It would look pretty cool to sand the flats on the handle and parts of the blade to give it a two toned finish.
This knife has a 3.6" S35VN blade and weighs 5.3 ounces
My #4 pick is ANOTHER zero tolerance knife, the ZT0909 which is based on Les George "Talos" model.
It has a 3.8" S35VN blade and weighs in at a hefty 7.5 ounces (It might be too heavy for me, but hopfully I can handle one in person to see how it feels.
The thing i like about this knife though is that it goes back to the kinds of knives ZT was known for. very solid overbuilt knives that can handle just about anything. This is a knife that you can use everyday for years on end it will still be as good as the day you bought it. It is a true heavy user knife
I am also really interested in getting the spyderco military Sprint knife is 52100 steel. I dont have a spyderco militarty or para 2 and ive want to get either one (or both) eventually. although i would rather have a para 2 in 52100 so im crossing my fingers that they will make that someday but until then i guess the military is a good choice.
The spyderco para 2 in s110v is pretty cool as well. I might buy that one and just sit back and pray for a 52100 version. Spydercos knives in s110v are awesome. I had a manix 2 in s110v and i was very impressed by the steel.
the military and para2 arent very high up on my knives i want list but since the military in 52100 is a sprint i should take the opportunity to buy it when it comes out because if i decide later on i want it i will end up paying a high premium in the secondary market. basically i would rather be the person who sells it at a premium vs the one who buys it at one
