What knives do you carry while hiking?

backpacking, not too darn much- but just enough :)

lately it has been an Izula neck carried (others have all been small, light fixed blades as well)- just enough for light wood prep (I use a small wood stove), food prep and cleaning fish & fowl

Most of the time a small to medium fixed blade (Fallkniven F1/A1) and a folder (CS recon1, Spyderco manix 2, benchmade 551)

When day-hiking I seldom carry a hatchet or axe but always have one with me for any overnighter. I don't have a dedicated setup but at times I'll have a folding saw, neck knife, and/or multi-tool. I always carry a dependable fixed blade along with a SAK. Here's a pic of my reliable favorites.

on a day hike where I am only goign to be gone for a few hours I take my Vic huntsman and my remora

If I backpacking then my huntsman along with a fixed blade belt knife. I recently got a small knife from SDS knifeworks thta will probably be filling that spot

and add a hatchet, hawk, folding saw, or BK2.

If I am going car camping all bets are off. I will take my 23 inch fiskars axe, hatchet, folding saw, and a 6 or 7 knives.

For me, it's a simple load. SAK Farmer ALOX, RC-4, and sometimes my LM Supertool 300

I just did a quick, solo overnight in a snow cave on Saturday night - only brought a ZT 0550. I usually bring redundant lights, but not knives. A stout folder like the ZT 0550 is enough to see me through a trip like that.

Haven't been hiking for a while, sadly, but I'm going to Big Bend over spring break. I'm planning to have at least my BK2, Spyderco Military, and a large chopper.

I hike with a leatherman charge TTi and occasionally a mora #1. Anything else is massively overkill, unless maybe I was in the pacific northwest where batonning for dry(ish) wood would be a necessity.

I am using this Phil Wilson knife a lot now ... very long lasting edge retention ...

In my pack I often have a Busse Basic 9 ... useful for larger fires ...

If I know I need to prep wood for an all night fire I swap out the Basic 9 for a Busse NTTKZ Khukri ... it can do the bigger stuff quicker ...

Just woods bummin' for a few hours, I'll carry my Gerber multi-tool, and a fixed blade knife my cousin made for me from an old chain saw bar.
Longer, overnighter hikes I'll carry those plus a folding saw, and perhaps an SAK Trekker or Hiker.
When hunting I'll carry my copy of Marble's Fieldcraft made by Buck for Cabela's, an SAK, and the knife my cousin made, sometimes a folding saw.
Seldom carry an axe, never found much use for one on a hike. Always have one in the truck, and at camp, though.

Honestly, if I'm hiking known/familiar trails or woods, I just stick with my EDC.

Either my 0200 or Commander

Sometimes, if I want to practice woods skills, I'll bring my Mora Clipper in custom kydex.

On dayhikes here in the Netherlands, I mostly carry only a SAK. The Farmer is one of my favourites.

On multiday hiking trips abroad I carry a larger SAK like the Soldier.

And add one of my fixed blade knives. Mostly the Mora 2000.

Almost forgot the Opinel, that I use for food preparation on multiday hiking/camping trips. Usually a regular Opinel #8 with stainless steel.
