For me it's the Kershaw Cryo. It's too heavy for what you get, the speed safe breaks too often for me and mine has blade play that I can't for the life of me get rid of.

Also lets remember that everyone is entitled to their own opinions ;)

Any knife with this handle

I may be missing the point but I find this style of handle very thin, poor and uncomfortable, even though it was apparently designed for the contrary results.

The fact that it is so extended in Fox models bothers me like few other things in the knife world.

I really wanted to like the Cryo better too.
It's like a boat anchor strapped to my pocket but feels too small in use.
Still looks sweet though.

Anything Gerber.

I personally think Spyderco are over rated too...
Not that I think spydies are bad knives at all, certainly they are good quality, innovative in regards to new steels, but; I find their design dept. lacking, (they just all look the same to me, and I'm not particularily a fan of that design). So while I do agree they are a quality brand, I don't think they're the greatest thing since sliced bread like the spyderco diehards do, and think there are better suited options (for me) in ever price range spydie offers...

That's a long list for me!

There are two issues with adding that list here:

One man's over-rated is another's under-rated.

This thread would get closed in a hurry for the above reason.

There is no subjective way to really explain 'over-rated'.....

Over-rated is very subjective. For example, the Kabar Becker BK-2, which I own, is not a knife I generally choose to use, but others love it.

Not trying to offend anyone but these highly lauded knives never did anything for me. Skyline, what's the big deal? Other being easy to carry what's it do well? Griptilian, 100.00!! Give me a break I can find lots of knives for less money that don't feel like a plasticy 7/11 knife. Last but not least Sebenza, no I'm not going to put it down it's a very good knife just not 400 + good knife. Ok I'm ducking!

Mikr

Skyline is pretty thin, light weight, made in the USA, and packs a hell of a lot of blade into the handle. I remember they used to cost just under $33.
The Grip knives, well they used to cost about 30% less about 2 years back or so. Benchmade restructured (there was an article about it in an online magazine), their prices. Minis would cost around $60 and the regular sized would go for about $75 at most. The good old days, inflation has been a killer in the knife industry over the last 2-3 years.
$55 knives are now pretty much $85.
$100 knives are now about $135.
$200 knives are now about $275.

I agree, the Cryo has nice lines. It would be a fantastic knife if it was full Ti and not assisted. For me the Speedsafe killed it.

When my enduras were stolen I set out to get replacements...I was horrified at how much I had to spend on the Grips I bought.Of course I got them after prices had been raised a year or so.Plain grips are 110 at REI now.10% more than last year.Yikes!

Brous Bionic . I'm not sure I like the knife but what I'm sure is it doesn't feel like a $170 dollar knife . Better option the ZT 0770 in CF .To me when we say overrated the price of the knife comes first so when I hear people say the Skyline is overrated I'll say show me a better option at $35 bucks .

The only knives I can think of that are over-rated are the ones that everybody just gushes over for no reason other than, well, everybody's already gushing over them. Just about anything Busse or CRK, with the Sebenza being a perfect example: it's rather boring looking and doesn't have special materials to make it so fantastic, the only thing it has is a high F&F and a maker that stands behind his work personally, which IMHO is not enough to warrant spending $350+ on a knife that you won't want to use because of the price.

Busse is the same way, INFI is good and all but it's not THAT special, the only thing Busse has going for 'em is they do a bunch of different varieties and let people customize their own knives pretty regularly, leading to many different models to collect. Still doesn't warrant the $400+ price tag for most of theirs.

Medford, Brous, and RHK all make knives for over $300 that really don't have the materials behind them to back up the prices, nor do they have the usability of other knives of the same or cheaper prices made by other small knife makers, they're all just there for collectors and people to rave about how well they feel in the hand without actually using them. I understand you're paying for a name when you buy them, but the knives themselves are overrated for what they are.

Honestly I think the Sebenza is overrated, it has no grip, looks like it will slip out of your hand in certain situations.

Assisted knives in general.

And I appreciate political commentary inserted where none is needed...

What knives do you find overrated?

None.

There are knives which don't match my wants or needs, but which match other folks' perfectly.

So there are plenty of popular knives that don't ring my chimes, but that does not mean they are overrated.

Oh definitely the sebenza. No matter how much I abuse it, that little bastard always finds its way into my pocket. I tried spinewhacking some sense into it but it just looks at me and says "Dude I am so expensive yet boring and my materials are very mediocre." Really? Did my sebenza just speak? A $400 knife that talks what a rip off. Doesn't even come with batteries. I can get a kershaw that stirs milk for that. The Spyderco tenacious is much better for $30 or the rat 1 is good too. I think I will use one of those to stab my sebenza in the face until it admits that it is the most overrated knife in history......

;)

I started to make a list, but had to stop because I was basically just making a list of knives I thought were overpriced - Strider, Chris Reeve, Hinderer, new Reate, many Benchmades, and others - I would argue Will Moon knives are overrated, as I dropped 1.2k on one of his Mk. 6 flippers, and it had gritty terrible action, came three months late (6mo in total), had none of the custom work we agreed on and that I had paid for, and the finish was awful.

That's when I stopped with customs. I've been burned every single time.

The overrated award would definitely go to Quartermaster AKA QTRM5TR ! American made prices for knives made in Communist China.
