What knives do you hate, and why?

I have no reason to hate any knife. It's all about the person holding the knife.

this, but also about the person manufacturing the knife.

that said, I have an aversion to AOs. there are quite a few knives, er, knifes I would have purchased if they were either manual or automatic. but AO? don't see the point, it's just another gimmick.

For me it has to be a toss up between butterfly knives (balisongs, whatever the heck people are callin em these days) and fantasy knives.

I had a butterfly knife when I was a kid. It was fun to play with. I can't see them holding up for anything more than some light stabbing action, and maybe not even that.

It's OK to dislike balisongs - they're certainly not for everybody - but don't base your opinion on the cheap piece of chinese pot steel crap that you had as a kid. The flagship of balisongs, the Benchmade 42, and its Spyderco and Bradley brethren are as solid as any folding knife out there, if not moreso. The "lock" is second in strength only to a fixed blade. Find someone with a quality 'song you can play with and you'll change your tune about how they'll hold up to use. Of course, you'll probably still hate them after you ricochet the blade off the back of your hand because you were holding the bite handle, but at least then you'll have a legitimate reason to hate them.:D

Knives with recurves have always rubbed me the wrong way. I know they're rather easy to get to with some sandpaper and a large drum, or maybe some rods... It's just not the same as a good straight edge or one with a belly though.

They just seem to be so common, and serve such little in terms of functionality.

I hate what Frost Cutlery has become.

Back in the mid-70's Parker Frost had some nice knives built in their name in Japan. Today the name Frost pretty much defines crap.

I do not hate any knife. However, there are two companies that I will not buy from.

Dark Ops: Because of the negative image their advertising has cast on all of us.

Franklin Mint: Because they prey on novice first time knife buyers, especially well meaning family members of those who do collect knives.

n2s

m-tech they've ripped off countless friends and family members of mine.

M-Tech 1221"s" (small). I got one for $10 and it's a real pos. :D

Wave doesn't work, thumbstud is buried so deep you have to really dig at it to deploy the dull blade.

Thumbstud is a cheap rivet that deforms and falls out annually and needs to be locktited in place again. Mind you, I only use 1 or 2 times per onth to open mail. I can't do that anymore since the blade lost it's edge.

No sharpener known to man can sharpen this metal. I've tried Sharpmaker, pull throughs, files, DMT and noting can sharpen it.

I've replaced it with a really good knife for office mail SRM 710 - a really fine framelock which takes and holds a great edge.

i dont have any i hate especially. i dislike fantasy knives. cheap copy`s. knock offs. i do have problem with reasoning behind hating chinese and taiwan made knives especially quality made ones based on there not made in the usa. Dont get me wrong i love the buy usa first attitude, but its borderline incredulous to boycot a decent $30 knife when you are typing on a keyboard from taiwan or processed the internet image you see here threw a taiwan made motherboard and have a flat screen tv made in god knows where but yet decide somehow some way that the line that you wont cross is a $30 knife purchase.

I'd prefer not to use the word "hate". Let's just say I strongly dislike any knife that isn't well-made and comfortable in the hand.

Neoclassic, is that a Szabo blade hidden among the flimsy Chinese video game knives?

I'll limit my selection to knives from reputable companies, since there are too many cheap, useless gas station knives out there to name. I don't like the new Spyderco DK folder. It's nice if you live in Denmark, but I don't see the point of going out of your way to bend over to ridiculous knife laws rather than put your efforts towards innovation. Seems like its inviting lawmakers to conjure up more restrictions and regulations.

made in china crap! those people who try to convince you that their knife is better since they only paid $10 for it on fleabay and they also pretend that its sharp...ignorance. I woke one of my friends up from this and now he owns 3 spydercos and is looking for a becker...

I hate OTFs as this design does not serve any useful purpose I could see and to a lesser extent other autos on the same reason.
I used to hate fantasy knives too but then I began to see them rather as a form of art. I mean, there is no reason to hate a painting or a sculpture simply because you can`t cut anything with them. Fantasy knives are just the same. A sculpture, a piece of artwork that is meant to be looked at. And judging art, we should look at the materials, idea and artisanship and if it is aesthetically pleasing to look at and then make up our minds. I mean, what could possibly be wrong with nice art about knives?
Then people would still argue, though, because tastes are different.

Balisong I like because it is the strongest and simplest locking mechanism there is.

Just my opinion.
