I'm new to this site and I just wondered what knives Do you recommend for the deer hunter. Is there someone that sells custom knives on here in the price range of $40-$60. I own many knives now mostly Gerber,Boker,Puma and I just ordered a K-bar Bk11 necker but I was wanting a small custom knife. What do you guys think of Anza knives

I doubt you will find a custom that low, in your price margin. If you look around....you may get lucky.
Most older hunters I know use either a Buck 110 or a 119, and they haven't failed them yet.
I don't hunt, so I'm going upon my friend tools.

The Spyderco Bill Moran is a great deer hunter's knife with excellent steel.

Well I have owned many Buck knives over the year but I want a small fixed custom knife. What do you guys think about the Anza knives

IMO your new BK11 will be perfect for deer. Mine works as well for me as any other knife I've ever used.

There are some knives floating around on the knifemaker's section that would do what you need, but they would be about 90-100 bucks.

From my experience, I'd say you need more then one knife in order to comfortably get the job done. I wouldn't spend too much on a custom simply because there is no reason to use only one knife for skinning/butchering.

-A small fixed blade with a gut hook. (3-4" blade)
-A bone saw
-A large chopper/or a meat ax
-A secondary small fixed blade of 3-4".

Anza knives are fine blades.
finding a custom for $60 is going to be tough, but there are plenty available under $160.
Start with some specifics -- what do you like, what are you looking for in blade length, width , thickness, any steel preference, etc...

I've always just liked the old Buck 110 folder. It's what I've always used.

I have deer hunted for 32 years now. I have quite the knife collection and have gutted deer with a 10 inch bowie to a pen knife. The knife that I use most is a Knives of Alaska magnum Wolverine hunter. It has d2 steel and a 3 3/4 inch blade. It takes a scary sharp edge that last all season. I have used it alone to gut, skin and quarter deer with out having to touch it up. The kraton handles are great when the knife is covered in blood. All else fails the Buck 110 or a Case folding hunter are great knives. I have a lot of customs but generally when its time to gut a deer it is my KOA that I use.

whatever you choose, my 2 cents would be have 1 blade strictly dedicated for dealing with the animal only , dont cut wood,or anything else with it ,get a mora for camp chores

I might know a place that has those Bill Moran featherweights with VG-10 in a 3-7/8" blade length in the bargain cave for $74.95.

I love my Buck 103 when a whitetail is in need of field dressing.

My custom was $45 back in the '80s. Might need to raise your price range a bit.

If you like small fixed blades they don't make em much better than the Swamprat Swamp warden also for the traditionalist there is the Buck 102 and 103.

If you look around online, you can a great Custom Jeff white knife for right around $50-60 with a sheath, this is mine that I bought for just around that, and I think it would serve you well in dressing a dear.

The Cold Steel Outdoorsman in VG10 is amazing if you can justify the cost. I have it and there is nothing better for hunting large game IMO.

However, I will second the Bill Moran, a perfect deer knife in my opinion, for me a stainless blade is great for hunting
