I don't mean to refute anybody's opinion when I say this, but I believe Sebenzas are frequently misunderstood or misrepresented. Striders are also a less than ideal comparison to them, which is peculiar since they are so often conjoined at the word "and." First of all, the price for a new Sebenza is $330 or $385 for a small or large size, which are both under the oft quoted $400 dollar price point (Strider SnG or SMF are $70 or $90 more than their "CRK counterparts" respectively at $400 or $475.)
Second, is it commonly known that the price of any CRK product is inclusive of the 2-day UPS shipping? I rarely see other examples deemed to be higher value include shipping costs where the price is quoted. Is everyone forgoing internet stores here? I can't find a decent selection in person where I live, and even if I could the cost would be higher to offset the operating costs of the store anyways. Just giving the listed price at an internet store can be misleading as a comparison to CRK.
Lastly, you can buy them used for under their MSRP. If you later wished you bought it new, you can send it to the shop to be refurbished. The refurbish option is a luxury point, but it sure eases your mind about using and scratching up the knife. In spite of that, they are still made to last, being tougher than more affordable knives albeit minuscule in most cases.
I'm not trying to say that everyone should buy a Sebenza... OK, I am
but I wouldn't hold it against anyone if that's not what interests them or if money is still an issue. I just expect to see more accuracy in debates of this nature in return. The manipulated presentation of information sounds like an airing of grievances to me, but it's unfortunate to think how those with less knowledge on the matter would respond.
Sebenza: worth the cost if you can afford it... but do you care to afford it? That is the question every individual should ask themselves.
