What knives do you think are not worth the cost?

I don't mean to refute anybody's opinion when I say this, but I believe Sebenzas are frequently misunderstood or misrepresented. Striders are also a less than ideal comparison to them, which is peculiar since they are so often conjoined at the word "and." First of all, the price for a new Sebenza is $330 or $385 for a small or large size, which are both under the oft quoted $400 dollar price point (Strider SnG or SMF are $70 or $90 more than their "CRK counterparts" respectively at $400 or $475.)

Second, is it commonly known that the price of any CRK product is inclusive of the 2-day UPS shipping? I rarely see other examples deemed to be higher value include shipping costs where the price is quoted. Is everyone forgoing internet stores here? I can't find a decent selection in person where I live, and even if I could the cost would be higher to offset the operating costs of the store anyways. Just giving the listed price at an internet store can be misleading as a comparison to CRK.

Lastly, you can buy them used for under their MSRP. If you later wished you bought it new, you can send it to the shop to be refurbished. The refurbish option is a luxury point, but it sure eases your mind about using and scratching up the knife. In spite of that, they are still made to last, being tougher than more affordable knives albeit minuscule in most cases.

I'm not trying to say that everyone should buy a Sebenza... OK, I am :D but I wouldn't hold it against anyone if that's not what interests them or if money is still an issue. I just expect to see more accuracy in debates of this nature in return. The manipulated presentation of information sounds like an airing of grievances to me, but it's unfortunate to think how those with less knowledge on the matter would respond.

Sebenza: worth the cost if you can afford it... but do you care to afford it? That is the question every individual should ask themselves.

Well said, Ryan. I think a lot of us have the money to buy most of the things we complain about being "too expensive," we just choose not to. I just spent $225 this morning on a Randall Triathlete (and didn't even give it a whole lot of thought), yet would never spend $400 on a Sebenza. My $100 Gerber Freeman S30V folder does everything I need a folder to do, and does it for $300 cheaper.

Sam the logic of cost won't let you buy a Seb... there is no reason in this universe why a production folder should exceed $250.00 CPM S30V, FRN, titanium or no. The Lone Wolf T3 for me is the epitome of production folders, used to be able to get them for $180.00 all day and all night...love to see a destruction test between that and an SnG, I think the Wolf would pop last.

Thank you for saying so, Samael. It really comes down to what your expectations are and what it costs to fulfill them. If I do say so myself, that Randall sounds mighty sweet. ;)

Well stated Ryan .... right on the money.

If everyone that says "Not worth it" would just add "to me" to the end of the statement, it would be perfectly logical. Without it, it's like saying a Yugo will get you to work just as well as a Mercedes, therefore the Mercedes isn't "worth it". Obviously there are plenty of folks in the world that feel differently. Are they wrong?

The Triathlete is a 3"-bladed skeletonized fixed blade (much like an Izulu) in 440C. Some would probably say $225 is too much to pay for it, too. But try finding one at that price. Seriously. (One sold on eBay last week for $400.)

Yes, any non-knife-knut would flinch and call me (and you) stupid if they knew I (we) paid anything over $40 for a knife :D

It's nice knowing a little chemistry and physics when buying knives, makes me feel smart when I explain the cost to the un-enlightened :p

I am astound at some of the prices mentioned. Here we have to pay full retail and a bit more for import costs if you want a guaranteed product from a decent dealer. Know what. I pay it, because I like the product and want it. (I also consider the warranty involved) Knives I do not think I have a limit on, except what I cannot afford at the moment, but fantasy knives and things I do not get.

Yes, you folks outside of America seem to be willing to pay amounts for knives that none of us here would even give a minute's consideration to. I've seen several auctions on eBay go into mind-boggling territory over the last few weeks, only to have the sale disqualified because the winner was in another country. But that's another story for another thread.
