What knives have you tried out?

ROCK6- That TOPS Pasayten is one of the few knives of theirs that has interested me. Do you have any in hand/in use pics by chance? Or any other blades you can compare it to? Wondering about handle comfort/thickness primarily.

Hey Spooky, not the best comparison photo...

It's a great blade with a great profile which is just the right "thin-ness"; personally, I think the 154CM steel is a little too hard. It keeps it's edge very well, but is a bitch to sharpen by hand...not sure what the deal is, but it's one of the harder knives to sharpen that I own. That's about the only drawback to a great design...

RC3
RC4
Fallkniven F1
Fallkniven S1
CS kukri machete
Swamp Rat Mini Mojo
SOG Seal Team
SOG PE18
Gerber Guardian
Gerber Freeman Hunter
CRKT M16

So far, my favorite user is the RC3, there's just something about it... I prefer to use blades between 3" and 4". I want to try out a Nessmuk, the design of that is appealing to me.

Thanks Rock! Would you describe the handle slabs as more 'RC' like in thinness/shape, or thick/rounded?

Hey ROCK......Where you been buddy?

I just got back last night...been at Fort Bragg assisting in a unit Mission Readiness Exercise (MRE); working longer hours than when I was in Iraq! I did get to log in and read over some of the forums at night, but I usually didn't get back to hotel until 2100-2200 and I was up every morning at 0500...looong week! I did get a few hikes around my old stomping grounds though:thumbup: Only problem is that I aquired a nasty head cold and a stomach flu that tore me up for a few days.

Yeah, thanks...I still have to head out to Fort Bliss before the end of the month and then back up to Fort Lewis, WA for most of November...being "home" is harder on the family than being in Iraq:eek: Just take comfort that you're getting the most out of your taxes on me:D

I have been searching for a 4" (approx.) blade knife with a full tang, that is sturdy without being too overbuilt to cut well, with an outstanding sheath that is not too expensive (say under $150) and not to difficult to replace.

This would be my ultimate go-to outdoors knife for camping, dayhikes, hunting and if need be survival.

Here's a pic of a few of the more recent contenders:

The RC4 was the one from Boat's passaround.

I've tried out a lot of SAKs, Leathermans, traditional folders, tactical folders, Moras, puukkos, tactical fixed blades etc. I'm happy with a clipped Spyderco and a SAK Farmer in my backpack as a backup.

Spyderco Military in BG42 is what I've been carrying. Don't ever find myself wanting a fixed blade in the woods. I just use my knives for whittling, food prep, hacking away at thorn bushes etc. I carry a machete or hatchet if I expect to do any serious trail clearing or chopping. I like the lightweight and prefer having my knife clipped to my front pocket than on my belt.

The ones I have tried out and still use. USAF survival knife, TAK, Buck119, RAT3, Camiillus Marine Kbar type knife. I carry the Rat3 daily, the TAK is in my BOB bag, The USAF survival knife stays in my bag in my truck, and the Buck119 I use for hunting and the Camillus is put away for my kids.
