I thought it would be fun if those of you who were able to go to Blade could post a photo of what you bought.
That way those of us us who were unable to attend could still share in the excitement of your scores.

Mark,

For some reason, this year as I walked the many miles looking around for materials, I was totally disappointed in the quality of materials (that I normally would buy), and the exorbitant prices that some folks were asking for them,
I left spending a total of (ready for this? ) $39.00.

Mark - I bought more than I thought originally, including:

- A few pieces of Ironwood from Arizona Ironwood

- A bunch of interesting black ash burl blocks

- A few colored stabilized ambrosia maple scale sets. I haven't done much with colored wood, but these were very subtle and well done.

- A few sets of book-matched Amboyna burl scales - with both the heart and sap wood running through them. I love the color contrast of these.

- Some small pieces of blue fossil ivory bark - which will be used as bolsters for a couple of damascus scandi blades.

- About a metric ton of micarta blocks, sheets, spacers, and misc G10, brass, pins, bolts, screws, and other brik-a-brak. I'm surprised I didn't have to pay for overweight luggage coming home...

Sadly, I only bought one knife this year. And you guys are gonna laugh at me - but I bought it as a gift for my wife. It is the new A.G. Russel folding Chef's knife. It was designed by the celebrity chef Alton Brown and is kind of cool - basically it is a folding santoku with micarta scales. And at $79, it isn't a bad deal for what you get...

Got some really nice stuff this year, mammoth ivory, elephant ivory, desert ironwood, boxelder, giraffe, amboyna, and Some rally nice Sambhar stag20130602_221832.jpg20130602_221832.jpgAnd a bunch of steel...

Unfortunately I bought no supplies because I didn't sell anything literally until the last minute. In the last 30 minutes of the show to be precise

While the materials you guys purchased interests me,
what I actually was curious about was knives.

A lot of the makers I know collect knives from other makers.
I just wanted to see what sort of knives people bring home from the world's largest knife show.

I got a d-lish-ious d-mascus necklace from the one and only Dlish, as well as a leather belt from Kenny Rowe and company. m_dlish_necklace_0001.jpg

PS I may be wrongly assuming that you are interested in seeing anything we bought:)

Cool necklace Lydia!
I am interested in seeing everything people brought back from the show.
Especially unusual stuff, and knives.

Nice knife David, I got one myself.. (see photo). I also picked up two Don Hanson folders and a Mike Ruth Jr. fighter. Photos when I get them.

Aldo Bruno *gave* me a bar of 52100 to play with and told me to send him the knives when they were ready to heat treat. :)

I found some of the best stag I have ever seen and some ivory that is very nice as well and you never want to let your DI stash get to low so had to buy just a bit. And no I wont sell you any of my stag.show-score.jpg

Those Markman damascus integrals are sweet.

I wasn't able to attend, but I did get a double-surprise at the show. The first was when Sam informed me that he would like to include the fighter he had planned to deliver to me at the show among his JS test pieces. The second was when I heard that Sam had gifted all his JS test knives to their respective owner. Blown away, am I. This peice is in transit to Dan Farr courtesy of Joe Paranee (thanks bud) and I will pick it up from him hopefully next weekend.

Big thanks again to Sam.

Sometimes I just sit and stare at Sam's knives. Such a great artist. I was fortunate to get to meet him although our conversation was short due to my lack of French. I'm very happy for you Roger, what an amazing gift. Surely this says something about you as well since I'm sure Sam gifted these to people he thought deserved them. Congratulations!

I bought enough handle material to make about 35 knives. The majority of it was from Todd Combs (Shadetree).
I also bought my first Chris Reeve knife (Umnumzaan) and a titanium pairing knife for my mom. Sorry no customs but I did see quite a few that I would love to own that already had "Sold" tags on them.
I spent way to much money but I had a great time!

I also bought a few pieces of dead animals - mostly ancient ivories - as well as some nice wood. I also picked up a REALLY cool viking axe from Mike Deibert. Once I get a chance to throw it around a bit I'll post pictures and a more detailed review but I can already tell you it's very well constructed and surprisingly well balanced for its size.

Axes are cool :D
