What lube do you use on your folders?

+1 on Nano-Oil

The difference it makes on some folders is nothing short of incredible.

Militec 1 and Grease, use grease when doing a full take town clean and maintenance strip on user pivots, Metal polish on Blades, works well on D2, and on M4, shrugs off that nasty moisture.

Received Nano oil with a custom Flashlight, going to see what all the fuss is about?

slip2000 but lately nano-oil (i really like the needle-tip applicator it comes in!).

I have used all but 1 or 2 of the products mentioned so far, over the years. None of them come close to Nano-oil for making my knives open effortlessly.

I use a little bit of WD-40 as it drips down between moving parts and reaches areas that can't easily be reached and I give the knife a workout by opening and closing it repeatedly a good number of times. I then use compressed air to blow out the excess and use a paper towel for general cleaning up of oily residue.

I usually follow this up with "Heavy Duty Silicone Lubricant" spray. It really coats the metal parts that maybe rub a bit and since it comes out under pressure it also penetrates into the recesses and then again I give the knife a workout by opening and closing it repeatedly to get uniform distribution of the lubricant.

Now here's the kicker, the "Heavy Duty Silicone Spray" lubricant does something that most other lubricants don't do. When you apply/spray it into the mechanism it comes out as a lubricating liquid but after a few seconds most, if not all, of the liquid evaporates leaving behind the silicone coating on the moving parts. You notice a huge difference after using the Silicone lubricant. The mechanism of just about any knife suddenly frees up so greatly that it's hard to even describe.

Also, the silicone spray doesn't feel greasy or oily after the liquid part evaporates so it really doesn't attract or collect dust or lint. The only other lubricating substance that I can think of that behaves this way is very fine graphite powder and I really wouldn't want to put that stuff in the "works" of my folder, not to mention how incredibly messy graphite powder is to work with.

I haven't tried Nano Oil yet but from the descriptions and results that you guys are all mentioning it sounds suspiciously similar to the results I've gotten with the "Silicone Spray Lubricant" which I talked about earlier in this thread.

Think I might try the Nano Oil and compare the results with the results that "Silicone Spray Lubricant" gives me. I don't know if the Nano Oil evaporates while leaving behind the microscopic lubricant on the metal parts but I'm guessing probably not. That's one benefit I can see right away with the Silicone Lubricant.

Anyone know where I can get a tiny bottle of Nano Oil for the purposes of testing it out? I don't want to buy a whole lot and spend a whole lot just to find out that I prefer the Silicone spray.

I've used regular old rifle old (Hoppes, Outer's, etc.), "3-in-1" Oil, and lately mineral oil.

I've used wd-40 and tuff glide. I usually use wd-40 to clean everything and break in washers and parts then re-clean and ad the tuff glide to the finished product. I like wd-40 for everything, just like Tabasco

I used to lube with Militec-1, but after doing a rust prevention test, I don't let it anywhere near my knives. I currently use Weaponshield and TuffGlide. I'm going to be testing some more lubes like FrogLube 3-in-1, and some others, so we'll see how they fare. It may be the best lube in the world, but if it won't protect from rust, then it's no good to me here in humid KS.

Ya'll are correct! Ny-Oil isn't made from whale oil anymore, it used to be made from Black Fish and Porpoises head/ jaw oil and Whale. I have a bottle that used to belong to my Dad's father and I know its every bit close to 100+years old, I'm 63 , my dad would be 96 if he were still alive. BTW I was born and raised in New Bedford Mass. where William F. Nye had his oil refinery.

Thanks for the correction.

I've used TW25B &b Eezox. Both work well and don't seem to attract much in the way of dirt. Using as little as possible is key, I think.

I use tuff glide for brass bushings, it dries and doesn't collect any more lint than dry ones.
For nylon I like 3 n 1 oil.
I have a few knives that I run dry as well. Like my mini ritter grip. It collects more crud than any other knife I own for some reason and it is smoother dry too.
