what do you guys use?

Motor-Oil, 5W-40 I think.

I've got one of those small pen-shaped applicators from Home Depot that I filled with oil years ago and haven't ever had to fill it again. Seems to work just fine for me, a little dab on the tang and then on the sides to work down into the pivot and everything is nice and smooth.

I've been using a kind of Teflon lubricant specially marketed for bicycles. I don't know the brand. It comes in a spray can and works well enough...

Mineral Oil: Oderless, tasteless & colorless.

Available in quantity at your local drugstore for a song and a dance.

WD-40. It consists of mineral oil - the same stuff in Johnson's Baby Oil - plus mineral spirits - a solvent that evaporates. I used to be a hater. Now I love that stuff.

I might instead use a little CLP.

For the most part though, I don't use anything. If a pivot is begging for it, I might give it a little, but otherwise I just generally leave 'em alone.

I use a waterproof hi-temp boat trailer wheel bearing grease on pivot and washers when I disassemble knife, otherwise a few drops of Tuf Glide. I like that solvent in Tuf Glide doesn't wash out the bearing grease that I use.

Tuf-Glide on the pivots. Tuf-Glide is GTG and lasts forever. The syringe like applicator makes it real easy to get the stuff in there where it counts, and it doesn't go everywhere like the spray type oils.

Sometimes I use a little Break-Free behind the ears - love that smell! :D
