What Lube?

For starters I'm most certainly no expert on the subject so take my input with a grain of salt.
I recently tried tons of different lubes and the best I've come across yet is the CRK fluorinated grease.
Minimal metal on metal feel/sound and it's smooooth.
I'm not a 'flicker' and suspect that maybe it's not the best for flickers, but again, I'm no great reference on the topic.
I am able to flick with the CRK grease without much problem.
I'll be interested to see what others say about this one.

the graphite based stuff generally used for lubing pushbike chains is my favourite.

Tri-Flow and Tuf-Glide used here. No complaints with either. Tri-Flow has teflon base and the Tuf-Glide is a dry lube.

Mineral oil. My knives touch food too often for me to use anything else. I used to use 3-in-one, but that's more for outdoor stuff nowadays. The occasional squeaky hinge gets a couple drops of the 3-in-one.

I like Breakfree CLP. It provides exemplary rust resistance for a light oil, and the teflon gives long lasting dry lubrication.

The balisong crowd loves Militec 1 (a little too much some say), but it's a lot of work to apply it the way you are supposed to and it doesn't seem worthwhile, especially when Breakfree is so easy to apply.

If you guys want to try a new lubricant, it would be worthwhile to email the manufacturer for a sample. I know Militec will send you a sample, and if you restrict it to knife use, a sample size pack will last for a very long time.

Have been using white lithium grease for the pivots, and 3-in-1 to coat blades to prevent rust.
I picked up some Dupont brand teflon silicone lube the other day, and that seems to work ok too.

I use mineral oil on my knives. I use my knives to chop fruit and so on so use something safe for the job.

I like BM blue lube, makes everything as smooth as a benchmade. Doesn't seem to attract dirt either.

You beat me to it. I have been very pleased with Benchmade's Blue Lube and Blue Lube Cleaner. Excellent penetration and as you mention, it doesn't attract dust and gunk.

i use bicycle chain lubricant, works really well.

+1 on bicycle lube.

I have been using T9 oil for bicycle chains. It has a paraffin wax base. Aside from making things smooth it really lasts long. I put some on my Spyderco Salt folders -which regularly follow me into the ocean, and the lube has stayed on the pivot for about a month now. It really seems to repel sand and ocean grit, keeping the opening action very smooth. Great stuff:thumbup:.

Here they are in a nutshell

Mineral Oil is the only one that is truly food safe

If food safety is not an issue here are the ones that are popular around here

Benchmade Blue Lube
CRK fluorinated grease
White Lithium Grease
Breakfree CLP stand for Clean Lubricate Protect it is widely used by United States Military for equipment maintenance
Militec-1
and last but not least Sentry Solutions Tuff Glide or High Slip Grease depending on what you want

All good stuff I presonally like the Sentry Solutions products but hey that's just me
