There are a lot of things that can make a knife cool, but what aspects raise the coolness factor the most? What does it take to make a knife really cool?

What makes a knife cool to ME, is the design, above all. Rare and weird materials are nice, but doesn't inherently make a knife cool.

But, who cares? I like my knives, you like your knives.

A combination of things. I like simple non flashy designs that are made from high quality materials. As long as the quality is there, it doesn’t have to be super expensive.

I care what other people think ONLY when I'm looking for input and know little to nothing about the maker, brand, and my needs. In the end I make the decision.

The more that I know about bushcrafting, knife defense/offense, collecting, steels, etc., the better purchase made.

I went with "who cares...." because what makes it cool is whatever it is that makes me want it. :D We have all (those who have been here awhile) seen knives people love which we think are stupid and visa-versa. ;) I do, however, look forward to what others think on this subject, may be a very interesting thread.

I could have voted "who cares what people think" because I understand that coolness is entirely subjective but I voted "neat shape / design" because that is actually what I personally find cool.

For example, if someone made a sword entirely out of titanium I would find that cool.

Entirely? Stay tuned... :D

You can choose three options. I chose Rare/Expensive materials, (less important but add something plus this sort of factors into bling anyway) and design is most important. I guess build quality might be part of design, though it is more execution.

Also who cares what people think. What matters to me is I think it is cool. Trying to get my homies to appreciate a knife is quite difficult. They are often more impressed by a large turd.

I voted rare, design and who cares. I think its neat when companies take different materials and use them in new ways for a knife. I usually can't afford it, but appreciate it nonetheless.

I actually decided to go back and add two more votes (one for rare materials and one for who cares). Why not be accurate when what you describe is exactly how I feel?

Simple. If my neatly shaped aloof homies think a knife has bling performance and the expensive designer provides some videos of him cutting people with a well known model! (I actually just went with Design, since "cool" is subjective, unless you put a knife on Ice and go with the literal -cool- , and I hate you for being first with the Shiny! I wanted to say "A Freezer" :p)
