What makes you keep a knife?

Times would have to be rough, money really tight to make me think of selling any of my knives.

Performance :) if a knife takes the chores I throw at it and meets or excels in the task, I keep it, my Case Sodbuster Jr in CV is one that excels, used the heck out of it one day and decided it was a keeper. My Opinel #8 is another example slices like a Japanese kitchen knife, actually used it for sushi too and it made mincemeat outa it :D and the steel takes a wicked edge.

(this post is filled with my terrible attempts at puns and is NOT as funny as it sounded in my head)

I have to really love my knives to want to them. There are so many great knives that i think its pointless to carry one you only like. preferably it is attractive so when other non-knife people see it they are not scared or judgy. I may be a little bit shallow in this department. :p

If I bought it, found it, or someone gave it to me, I keep it.

If I buy a knife that seems like it might be a good user, I buy a second one just for using.

If I end up with a duplicate and don't need it for a user, I give it away or put it up for trade.

Its tough, but I can't keep all that I buy. I've been buying for over 30 years, but have slowed down alot. Got rid of about 100 over the past two years, and have about that many more I need to move. I love every one I have, but I'm going to try to get down to about 25. I'll get rid of any I haven't used yet first, and give some I have used to family.

I have gifted a few knives, but I have never just sold one. I buy what I like, and I like what I buy.
