What Material Is A Buckarta Handle Made Of?

I have several Kalinga's. The one closest to yours has a hinged box, red birch handles and pointed guard. From 1981. Yours has a non pointed guard, 2 piece box and red birch handles. Which came out in 1986. Your Kalinga is also dated by the 'X' beside the USA. This stamp puts it at a 1990. These date codes are above the topics index in a separate title. I know confusing and a lot to learn. But you're learning. Hang with us for more details about Buck knives. DM

Thanks DM, so it's not Rosewood...at least it's not Buckarta, LOL. Off topic but while I have your ear and you have my pictures, what is the best way to remove the slight green corrosion and the finger print etching on the brass parts without doing any damage?

Buck calls the handle material red birch. That type of laminated wood used has a factory name of Dymondwood. Both are correct. You could see different colors for this same wood. The only difference is the dye. Yes, it is Not Buckarta. (that's micarta) Try rubbing the finger guard with some alcohol on a soft cloth. That should take it off. DM
