What Materials Do You Slice?

Onions, tomatoes, green peppers, paper, rope, apples, bacon and wood. I like to use my Randall Sportman's Bowie for these things.

I ask because I do mostly push cutting myself. I'm going to sharpen a few knives with similar blade profiles and steels to a low grit edge, test slicing ability, then do the same at a high grit edge. I'm curious how much of a difference the grit finish makes. I'm looking for ideas of what to cut.

I did the same. Low grits improve the slicing ability, high grits improve the push cutting ability. The difference is noticeable on any stuff to cut but i generally like to test edges on fibrous ones like rope or wood.
I tend to slice with folders and use generally a 300 grit. I prefer the push cutting way with a fixed and i go then with a 1200 grit. I would say a 600 grit is a good compromise and it's the grit i carry when hiking.
