I'm going to give another thumbs up for the Wayfarer. I'm on my third one right now and I think I've finally found the one I want to keep. I traded the first one for the second one and the second one for the third (the one I have right now). I love the design, I love that each one is different. So many variations are possible. Each one has super flipping action, perfect lock-up, and perfect centering. The weight really isn't bad either. As a bonus, Eugene from Olamic is a great guy and he really takes care of his customers.
Sonnydaze,
It is really good to hear that the steels are almost equivalent, since I also love my ZT 0770cf M390.
So what is your thoughts on AVO when compared to 0770?
I would be very much interested in hearing your opinion.
Miso

You can't touch a Terzuola for under 1300 these days.
I'd go with an Olamic Wayfarer as long as you are OK with the size. They are big.
There is a Terzuola mid-tech collab that you can get for ~$600, made by Three Rivers. Not a custom, but closer to what the OP was looking for.
Nope you got that backwardsOnly the first run of AVOs were made with B75P. The vast majority are made with PSF27 which is basically in between D2 and CPM-D2
Nope you got that backwards
Not a mid-tech. It's just a production knife of Bob's design. Bob had no input and never touched them.
At least the 'mid-techs' made by Nichols are usually sharpened and checked by the maker, some of them even do the assembly.
The steel in my Brad Southard AVO is a good blade-steel, and more than adequate for my rather casual EDC needs, but it is NOT the equivalent of the M390 in your folder. The M390 is a top choice and very difficult to beat.
Brad Southard AVO
Some of the dimensions are:
grip thkness: 0.460"
blade thkness: 0.140"
3.33" blade (tip to grip)
4.5" grip length
Very comfy in my hand.. Rock-solid, no-stick goodness..
The ZT 0770 fires very hard in my hand...the spring-assist is extremely effective. I like the styling of the grip and of the blade, and it is comfortable to hold. The CF grip is beautiful but is more slippery to hold onto than my AVO's plain-Jane titanium slabs. The AVO is built heavier...in total weight, blade-thickness and is a frame-lock design. The ZT is a liner-lock, has a thinner blade but excellent grind which will slice like a bugger...and both knives are easy-operating one-handers. I could be well-satisfied with either knife.
I think you've made an excellent choice.
And it's nice to know that you could buy two 0770's for the price of one AVO. 'Nuff said.
Here is a pic...

I can't recomend the Wayfarer enough:thumbup:
I'd try and find one with moonglow, it's not some cheap GITD toy stuff. This stuff glows bright and long. I've left mine on my nite stand under my lamp, and woke up at 4-5am and the thing is still glowinggood stuff! I think it would be very practical if you needed a knife in a low light situation (not like that really happens much though
).
