what my sebenza means to me

Bravo Panzeron! Well said and I agree completely. Objects created with craftsmanship and pride is hard to find these days. These are objects that people are proud to carry, use, own, and appreciate. Our society has certainly changed, however, I'm glad with knives objects made with pride still do exist and hopefully continue to exist.

Great post's. After years of being satisfied with lesser folders, moved up to CR's just this past month. Now have three Sebenzas, and finally see "the light." ...;-)

I do agree with the OP. Sebenzas are a special breed. I too moved up to CRK and got the Umnumzaan like 2-3 weeks ago. was really impressed with it. Before taking delivery I too had expectations but when it was in the hands, it blew me away. And just now I am a proud owner of a large 21. Its so nice that I am fondling it in one hand whilst the other is typing this post..:)

Well said panzeron
There is something to be told when a finely crafted piece metal and materials can make so many individuals just step back and realize what they value in their lives.
Well done CR...Well done

Great thread. I started the knife hobby last year. My first knife was a SOG and then moved to Spydercos, but once I purchased and held my first Chris Reeve Sebenza 21 with Box Elder inlays, I was blown away. The quality was exceptional but as others noted there is something else about them. Having soul is a good way to describe it. After the first one, I just had to have another one so I purchased another Sebenza 21 with unique graphic and DT rain drop damascus. I just love both of them. Since then I tried a few of the customs but without question none of the customs I have owned or still own come close to the value for money as the Chris Reeves knives.

I started much the same way, except my first was an African Blackwood Classic. Now look!

I love my Spydercos and my Emersons for obvious reasons that all have to do with quality and utility. I also love my Boker and my CRKTs. But my Starbenza is just so damn special to me.

To the OP: I get you.

Plato1.. absolutely agree .. for pure utility I suppose my paramilitary 2 is all the knife I'd ever need for edc . I love my Para 2 , I have 2 of them . Hats off to spyderco for making such a perfect knife at that price point . But my sebenza just has that something extra . In the post I called it the "soul" . I know some will look at me crooked when I say that .. but from the responses on this posts . I know there are many of us that get it ... I guess to the people who don't get it . It's like trying to describe color to a blind person .

Man, what a great post panzeron, you really nailed it. I was born in 1960 and have unfortunately had to witness the dumbing-down, least-common-denominator and throw away mentality we have been through. It's sad.

But this thread is about the ability of a CRK to allow us to hang on to the feeling we once had in pretty much everything. There was pride in what people made, and Chris still lives that life, and Thank Goodness he does. For all of us who appreciate and understand just what a CRK brings to the table.

Some might not get it, and that is fine, to each their own. But we do. And I'm thankful for the ability to carry such a well-made, everyday-necessity item that I can depend on every time, day in and day out, and get a feeling of specialness every time I pull one of mine out of a pocket and use it. It brings a smile to my face every time I get to use one.

One of the good things to happen in this new America is this forum. It is also great to be able to share in and have a brotherhood (or sisterhood) with each and every one of you. I'm on here every day seeing what is going on, and you all are like an extended family.

Again, panzeron, you made a great post that was just very well-written. I am throughly impressed and I think you just made the biggest cannon-ball splash we have seen in some time. This is a fine collection of folks, we are very helpful to one another here and you are certainly a welcome addition. Well done!

KidCongo, you might have some company. All your stuff is stellar as well. In addition, you certainly would be "staff photographer!" Not to take away from your shot here Dantone05, very well thought out and executed. That's nice.

This was the most relevant thread I could find so segwaying off of yours. You started this off really well by the way. Just a great write up Panzeron.

I had to find out for myself the mystique of owning a Sebenza so I got one second hand. It came used but not abused. Snail trails on both sides of the scales, clip scuffs but also an off centered blade. Because of the high tolerances, this had to go into the Idaho shop for service.

Let me tell you what...they more than exceeded my expectations and it came back as looking factory fresh and new!
CRK reblasted the scales and the clip, set new washers, sharpened and polished the blade and added a lanyard that I didn't request. The cost? $0. Nada. Just shipping.
Wow am I impressed. That's service at its best folks. I'll gladly buy another knife from them. No question about it.

I wish I had a before and after pic. This is the after.

Thank you , for the kind words . My love for my 21 has not diminished a bit since that post . It has actually grown , it is such a perfect Edc in every way . I'm glad you're enjoying your's . Wow that thing looks brand new . Not sure what it looked like before . Did you get a birth card with it ? Stories of their stellar customer service and warranty, was one reason I went with them . It's great to hear about that warranty in action . No hassle and they guarantee their product no matter if it changes owners . Do you understand the "soul" aspect I spoke of? Keep carrying and using it . It grows on you more and more ...
.
