What new BM's do you want to see in Jan?

Now that the patent has expired I would look for alternatives to the Axis lock. I have 15 year old liner locks, say AFCK, that are still in regular play. Simple still applies. And yes, the 890 continues to surprise with its longevity. While I liked the blade shape, the Steigerwalt design was/is more of a gentleman's knife. The scales are a little too slick, and it's interesting that to my knowledge, replacement scales have never been offered. That being said, I'd welcome a return to some old school designs.

I honestly have no idea how the 890 is still hanging around. I never see anyone carrying it and I can't even remember the last time I saw one in a shop. I'd guess that the 710 and Strykers that are being discontinued outsell the 890 several times over.

I hear you. I have an 890 and never thought to carry it. Bought it, looked at it, said "that's nice" and put it away. I stopped trying to figure out why BM discontinues some models and not others a long time ago. Then again I'm not privy to the big picture.

The original 910 Stryker was one of my most carried knives. Many complained however about the 909 & 908 versions not being true to the original design. Maybe that has something to do with it's lack of sustained popularity or early demise?

Either way I'm sorry to see it go.

Update the 710 handle construction more than the knifeworks exclusive. The 710 is one of the best models ever but has never had as smooth an action as other knives like the strykers. It needs another pillar in the handle so that when you actuate the lock you dont put pressure on the pivot stopping it from free falling with no play when locked up. Have had multiple 710's now and all have the same issues. And would also like to see more variants of the 943's.

I want to see small versions of the Bedlam, Crooked River, and Proxy. These are great knives but they are all very large. I can get a six-finger grip on the Bedlam.

I love that Buck. It was my first real knife at 13 years and a gift on joining the Scouts. Must be a million of them around the planet. As for Spring offerings, I would welcome something in the smaller range, and it doesn't have to have an Axis lock. What I've always loved about midlocks/lockbacks were their simplicity and flat out ease of maintenance. Come full circle from the complicated and fussy Paul design knives from a few years ago that never sold well, we could do with something elegant and yet sturdy. Again, keep it simple and offer it in exotic scales and more in M390 and M4 please!

940/943(plus serrated versions) with M390 steel. Or other premium steel options. M4 would be cool too.
If it means phasing out the s90v, so be it. That knife deserves more blade upgrade options from the factory.

Also- Would be nice if they added the 940/943's to the custom knife configurator. Given that it may be benchmade's most popular/loved folding knife(right there with the grip/mini-grip), I feel like that's long overdue.
If that happened, I'd own a handful of 940's & 943's, rather than just one.

162 in uncoated M4

943 in M390 with carbon handle and Ti standoffs

I'd like to see less S30V/154CM, and more advanced steels. Spyderco is slaying the steel game right now, and over half of Benchmade's lineup is stuck in 2005.

Discontinuing so many models just before the holidays; in my mind either someone's drilling holes in the boat, or there's a major change coming. With the Axis lock free of the long running patent, it would explain why the retirement of the 710 was in the works, and probably for some time, just guessing. And then what will, with very little fanfare in Doug's posting, replace for many of us the Beloved Ritter Grips? Be interesting over the next few weeks to see what else happens, we will see the outcome soon enough.

Would like to see:

* A version of the 765 with an Axis Lock and no thumb stud (Axis flick open only)

* Option to omit the thumb stud and thumb stud hole on any custom build program knife

* More blades with a high, flat grind

A few additional thoughts:

* The Axis Lock rocks, and I would urge Benchmade to keep it as a central part of their offerings.

* It would be interesting to experiment with a model with bearings instead of washers for the pivot.

* An awesome new knife would be to offer something that's basically identical to the Ritter griptilian blade with the Applied Weapons Technologies (or Wilkins) scales. I paid about $210 for a mini grip plus AWT scales and feel like that was a pretty fair price. Benchmade could make something similar.

BM710 with S110V steel. Just dreaming...
Yes! Now that would be epic.
*And do a 940/943 in S110v for good measure :D

Another long shot, but something I think would be awesome- if they brought back the 710-801 and made it a standard option(ideally with a serrated version). They could call it the 710 tactical or something. And maybe offer a sand or coyote brown color g10 handle, for soldiers over in the sandbox.
I could see that knife being a huge hit with military & LE

My guess is they are going to offer M390 as a blade steel option in the custom Grip, and that was why they ultimately stopped production of the Ritter. That's just my guess though
