I started out with a Military and liked that so much that I even had a G2 sheath made for it. Next I got a Starmate, BF Native and Harpy and now the hole does not look near as ugly, in fact I am becoming attracted to holes in blades.

I really like the G-10 handles better than the others. For my next addition I am thinking about a Wegner. What other suggestions are there. I look primarily for utility working knife.

Thanks for your help.

The Wegner would be an excellent choice. I warn you though, you may find yourself liking it more than the others!

You might as well pick up the Wegner now. It's a great design superbly executed by Spyderco and if you don't get it now you'll probably end up getting it later. Just look at the legion of fans on the forums. If you like Spydercos I would consider this a mandatory purchase, in full size or jr. Heck, my wife snagged my jr. as soon as it came in the mail.

Stocky,
The Harpy is the only serrated. I prefer plain edge but the Harpy serves its purpose.

Well if no body has any complaints I will have to see about getting one.

Thanks

P.S. It sure is funny, that hole is getting better looking all the time.

Bo,
Nice start on the collection and good choices. Wegner Jr would be a great addition. But don't forget some of the zytel handled ones as well. Calypso Jr Lightweight should be next after the Wegner. It's just a kickass knife. Nice handle - texture, design and feel. And very very sharp VG10 blade. Don't know how the other Spydie forumites feel, but I think this is perhaps one of the sharpest blades that come from Spyderco. This thing really cuts. Only problem I have with this knife is that I'm worried I'll not be able to return it to the factory sharpened edge when the time comes.

ceg,
I am just warming up to the hole, the Zytel will take awhile longer.

I will probably have to go handle one first but the new steels sounds interesting.

Well, there is no way to fault your desire for a Wegner. I have a full size one myself and I use it around the farm and at work just about everyday. The suggestion about getting some of the Zytel handled knives is good but there is another direction to start. If you want to get a great knife before it disappears I would look for a plain edge full size Calypso.

I've had mine for about a month now and I love it. The micarta handle looks better in person than it does on a scan. It is a very classy looking knife. And the blade is both long and slim. Here is a knife with a longer blade than the Wegner, with better steel, and yet it is only 3.1 ounces in weight compared to the Wegner's 5.5. Part of that comes from the lack of liners and the rest comes from weight savings on the blade. It is flat ground. The top spine has an angled bevel all the way down the blade. It is just a much more graceful blade than the big working Wegner. Combine the light weight with tip-down carry and you have a full size knife you can clip just about anywhere on your pants and forget about. Yes, I would far prefer the Wegner for down and dirty cutting chores. But I would prefer to carry the Calypso and when I do deign to get it dirty that flat ground VG-10 blade cuts through it like it was butter. I was doing the "cutting freely held paper into strips" thing the other day for some admiring co-workers. And that was with the factory edge. This is one sweet knife!

I'm starting to get rather heavy! My "base" daily carry is now up to three. (Sometimes I carry more especially if I feel like having the BF Native or REKAT Fang neck knives "hanging" around.) I wear jeans at work and I'm now carrying the full size Wegner clipped to the inside of the right pocket. The full size Calypso I clip either inside the right front of the jeans with the clip under the belt or clipped right in the middle in the back of my jeans. The left front pocket has the little tip down G-10 Harpy that I don't go anywhere without. If I ever accidently walk through a metal detector the sirens are going to wail!

Hey guys,

I can't agree more on the Wenger. It is the next knife on my list. Prob a christmas present to myself. The harpy is great too. I have an old stainless handle one in G-2 that is about 6 years old and still works great. If you r looking for a G-10 harpy, Smoky Mountain has them for $42.99. It is the best price you will ever see. They r also being discontinue so grab one while u can. bye

Moran or Wegner. I'm thinking of a Starmate, Police, another Moran, and Dragonfly.
