The original Warhead was considerably thicker with a much steeper grind making it heavier and stronger than the new version.

That's what I figured. I'm getting a newer version so I can compare with my memories.

Like I said, I'm very happy with the latter version. Whatever the configuration, they make a very decent survival knife, and it costs almost nothing $$$. The G.I. Tanto was a nice try, but it needed to be a bit sleeker. Still, it's a bargain, too.
