What off the shelf grease or oil for your Seb?

Howdy yall,

After my anger over losing my sebenza, bliss at finding it, and the final decision to keep it (I love it too much- I'll have to endure the risk of losing and I've been working on that). I have a question for all of you long time owners- what do you use to lubricate your sebenza? I would much rather walk into a local store and buy a decent oil or grease than order one if that's an option. I've been using Reel Butter that I use on some of my fishing reels, but it doesn't seem to last very well sadly.

I havent seen Frog Lube CLP in any local stores by me but if you can find it thats what I have been using. It just works!

I use Flourinated Grease/Krytox GPL-205, that I buy in syringes off the bay.

It makes my sebs (and other knives) as smooth as butter, and little goes a LONG way. YMMV.

I know the flourinated greases are the standard, and if there are really no other acceptably good options I could order some, but I'm really looking for something that could pick up in home depot, walmart, or any of the chain sporting good stores. I know all of those things last awhile and its probably more beneficial to order, but probably the biggest part of the draw of me to my sebenza is just how easy and simple it is. I can break it down with one tool I can find anywhere and always fix it or clean it on the fly. I'm just trying to find the best of the readily available options and hopefully something that lasts a bit longer than my Reel Butter.

I just bought some Chris Reeve grease not too long ago so thats what I use now but before that, I used Militec for all my knives.

I've used Militec or Slip 2000 not by choice, but just because that is what I had available at the time.

I still want to try some Nano oil some day.

I bought nano-oil off of Amazon. It seems expensive but then you realize how little you need. The small tube I bought will likely last many years. I have used it on my 25 and other brands. It works great! I have also used CRK grease, and it works great as well.

I have the finish line grease from Amazon. I have not tried it on the seb yet. I tried it on the XM-18s and it felt really smooth, but slowed the action a bit. It's really thick, but it felt really nice. I switched to nano oil (and you only need to use a little) and it works great. Maybe I'll try the grase later, but I've not much of a reason to switch.

I'd recommend just buying the flourinated grease, it lasts a very long time and requires so little that a syringe lasts me years.
If I wasn't using it I'd use quick release or slip 2000, the knives just seem to need maintenance more often with those.

For the last two months or so I've been using the flourinated grease with a drop of quick release, smoothest CRK's that I've ever felt.

Nismo,

How is the CR grease stacking up to the Militec?

Long term, Im not sure since I only have the CR grease for a couple of weeks but with the militec oil, it was stiff at first but loosened up overtime. Maybe because I used too much oil at first but as of right now, Im not sure since its only been a week or two with the grease. What I can say is that with the militec oil, the blade would drop free when I open the lock, and with the CR grease, it does not (even though Im sure I have my pivot looser than it has ever been.)

In other words, I think I can feel the blade more more freely with the Militec but the blade feels more smooth with the CR grease, just not as fast - I guess that is what they ment by more "hydraulic".

I've been using CRK grease with a little bit of Nano Oil mixed in, nothing compare's imho:thumbup:

I'm a recent convert to Froglube. Use it on all my knives and firearms. Top shelf!

I've been using Miltec on mine for years and it seems to work just fine. But I don't really spend much time thinking about this sort of thing.

Daiwa reel oil from a fishing supply store. I believe it's nano oil. It's one of the most popular reel oils and people rave about it on the fishing forums. Reels have much higher friction rates than a folder does!!

I use it on all my knives. A couple drops every few weeks.

A couple of you have mentioned using grease with a drop of oil. I too have found using hite grease and a drop of WC Universal lube II works very well, far better than either by themself. I wonder why this is?

You guys are a hoot.

Spend the big bucks on a knife, but won't spend $11.50 on the lubricant specified by the manufacturer and chosen by them after their own testing.

Makes just as much sense as CRK putting in a tool to disassemble and maintain the knife, but not including the lubricant needed to complete the job.

Do you also put the wrong type of oil in your car? :)
