I wanted to find out the best oil to coat my knives with during storage? Some are BUSSE some are not... Thanks!

Right on MIKE----1st up Mineral Oil (food Grade)
Long time storage-Ren-Wax
Daily use in bad weather, Sentry Solutions, Tri-Flow!!! Then there is always the nasty smellar but works good and that Eezox.

Advantage to mineral oil is its non-toxicity. Food prep OK!

Cheers

Food grade mineral oil, cheap ,effective and food safe.

+1

Sometimes if they are being stored for a while Ill use coconut oil. Mind you it dries on thick and leaves a visible coat. Still its even "safer" than mineral oil. On kitchen knives that get used every day I use olive oil.

CLP gun oil for me . . . I haven't used any Busse/ Busse kin knives for food prep, but if I did I'd use coconut oil

RIG Universal Grease – I have used this product to protect knives and guns for over 45 years with great success.
We used this in the Navy for metals exposed to harsh marine environments. Plain and simple – it works.

I usually just use a VERY light coat of olive oil, and I only oil them if they are going to be put away for a long period of time

WD40 works well for me. Also some good old Valvoline engine grease wiped on with a rag, providing you're not going to use that knife for food prep. Even then...

Vaseline, Birchwood Casey Barricade, or mineral oil. Any of the good gun oils out there will do the job.

If the knives are safe queens and are not going to be exposed to the elements then any light machine oil or mineral oil will do. Nice and light, hardly any smell and a joy to apply. I have a knife of the month. It sits on my PC table and I polish it with light oil while I’m surfing or watching stuff. In fact I’m polishing it now (knife that is).:D

If it’s a user then this article is worth reading.

A not so little rust prevention test

Keep in mind the results would be closer if reapplication was performed frequently

Another test to check out

Corrosion Prevention Test

I don't think eating the small amount of oil present on a knife blade would hurt anyone. If humans were that fragile, we never would have made it this far.Hmm...perhaps a legal disclaimer needed here? Nope!

Camelia oil, also called sword oil. Organic, non-toxic and used for centuries.

WD40 has solvents in addition to oil; I wouldn't use it on anything for storage, especially anything collectible.

Eezox would be ideal if your aren't planning on using for food prep, it dries to the touch and cannot be wiped off. Also possesses outstanding corrosion protection for long term storage, people have let guns sit for years with just a single application and no rust.

You would be surprised at the long term affects.
