What other production knife maker besides Cold Steel offers a San Mai style blade?

Don't forget custom blades. Lots of makers making layered steel. Bailey comes to mind, and even better, you could get one of his forged layered steel knives in the same price range as a production Falkniven, etc.

His are three layers of carbons steel. I am not sure he is producing a layered with stainless outer layers yet.

Other custom makers do, but the price goes up significantly for layered stainless/high carbon center from what I have seen.

I think it works pretty good for ZDP-189 and its corrosion resistance issue, though I would find DLC coating to be just as great:thumbup:.

ZDP doesn't seem to have an issue with corrosion like everyone wants to believe. It's on the very, very edge of being considered a full blooded stainless, and I have tried hard before to get it to patina or rust. I've left it for 36 hours straight inside apples, onions, and potatoes. Nothing. Spyderco sandwiched the ZDP of the Caly 3 with the soft, cheap 420J as a way to keep the Caly cheap.

Some of the Yuna ATS-34/ZDP combo sounds great. One major criticism of the steel is how brittle it can be at high hardness. If ZDP could become tough and still keep that high hardness/edge holding, that would make one hell of a knife blade.

Hi,

Even Rough Rider offers two San Mai lockbacks. Check out RR1020 and RR1021. The fit and finish is very high. And the San Mai blade is very well made.

I've been using the RR1021 for the last 4 months. And it's held up extremely well.

Yeah you're right, I forgot you were looking for 10" + blades...I don't think I've seen many san mai blades over like 5"

Yeah thats true, my stainless Mora is defiantly laminated, you can tell by looking at the spine since they never seem to finish the spine on their knives.

Thats odd , I have one of the Laminated Moras (wooden) and the spine is finished 'perfectly' all smooth and everything some of the plastic ones have a rough edge finish tho - It clearly has Laminated stamped on the blade , and if you look carefully you can see the subtle change of steel line. Came with one of the sharpest factory edges EVER.

Darryl Meier does san mai damascus for Bud Nealy, but I haven't seen anything more than about 5". I've been looking for a big custom san mai blade that is affordable in a user, but there seem to be fewer around
