what outdoor/wilderness/survival magazines do your read?

Backwoodsman appears sporadically on the magazine rack where we do our grocery shopping, and I snag it whenever I see it there. I also read a copy of Wilderness Way for the first time recently and liked that one too. Both are sort of the analog version of this forum!

I quite enjoy Field and Stream. I also just purchased a subscription to Nat. Geographic. I used to read Outdoor Life but have gotten away from it. I grew up reading all of my grandfathers back issues. Patrick F. McManus is still one of my favorite outdoor writers :)

American Hunter (a subscription comes with an NRA membership).

I used to subscribe to Outdoor Life and National Geographic. Now I just pick them up from the shelves at the store when I feel like reading an issue.

I've never heard of some of the other magazines listed here. I'll keep an eye for them the next time I am at the bookstore.

i read Backwoodsman and have a nearly complete 3 or 4 year collection of them. i really enjoy most of each issue, however once in a while they will have an issue that doent trip my trigger so to speak.

i REALLY REALLY miss American Survival guide, i did have a good collection of them, but had to pick and choose which ones to keep for storage reasons. i still have some and those contain very good articles on survival and gear.

if any publishers are reading this, please create a new mag that has all kinds of articles on emergency situations, civil unrest coping skills, gear reveiws, sit-reps about national and internationl attempts to bring America down. im kind looking for an American Surv. Guide / Backwoodsman / Soldier of Fortune / backpacker magazine that uses the best things of all those mags.

until this "Uber" mag is made, i'll read BW and visit this site and Near Death Experiments .

Patrick F. McManus is great. There's a man that knows when's the right time to just go fishing...

+1 for Backwoodsman.
Eric is right that once in a while one issue is sort of a dud but still worth keeping in the library IMO.
I have found info/articles in one of those "dud" issues to come in handy at some later time.
I just receieved the two "Best of Backwoodsman" issues and they are pretty cool as well.

Wilderness Way and Backwoodshome are two I have been thinking about getting subsriptions.

You'll have to go here for the online ASG:

I kept all of my copies. I think the first one was OCT 1981, called Shooter's Survival Guide.

Hey guys! I'm glad you guys enjoy "Wilderness Way." It's been fun writing for the magazine.

We always welcome suggestions, because, after all, without you there is no magazine. Thanks again

I'd like to subscribe to Backwoodsman but being in South America makes it almost impossible. With my Blade magazine subscription I am able to download each month's magazine in digital pdf format, without this feature I wouldn't even bother. The Backwoodsman website only seems to offer traditional paper mail-out subscriptions... anyone know of a third-party source for a digital edition of Backwoodsman?
