What pattern would you like to see in 2016 as the Trad Forum Knife

Scouts are common to find as well. I like the idea of a Split back Scout Whittler, whoever had it. I believe the 79 workhorse whittler has beefier blades all around as does the 57 Gipphetto Whittler. The 79 would fit the cigar frame pattern better. Anyone no if it's a split back pattern?

The only jigged macarta I've handled was a GEC fixed blade and was quite rough and I agree you loose the grain when it's jigged. I think smooth and ivory macarta would be nice.

Washington state has laws forbidding the sale of any type of ivory to anywhere, except within the state, so I cannot sell or ship ivory of ANY KIND. Period.

Stupid, I know, but that is the current law.
OK, so let's make it with foie gras handles. Oh no! Forbidden in California... :D

How about a clear acrylic over green, looking glass style? I had a scout knife like this when I was a kid.

Ack! No celluloid!
If you want something ivory colored, try for Ivory bone or ivory Micarta.

I actually get upset now when I find knives that have signs of being near gassed-out celluloid. The most annoying part is that you can't really tell which celluloid knives will stay intact (or for how long) and which ones will try to ruin any nearby steel. Micarta would definitely be the preferred synthetic for a premium scout, IMO, though the more I think about it the more I agree that smooth Micarta would look even better than jigged.

I was actually thinking that GEC would make some acrylic that would look like the old stuff, but wasn't really the gassing-out celluloid. I'm not sure that stuff is ever used anymore.

This is your perfect "out," Barry! Hahaha, you should be pushing hard for warthog! Just kidding, I can only imagine how much work that was last year (hence the joke) and we all really appreciate it. I love my Canal Steet BF knife and someday my daughter will, too.

This thread is getting me very excited. I agree with the sentiment that the BF knife should be something not readily available. I also agree that, to a point, price should not be a huge deal. I'd rather have a truly special knife for $150 than compromise to get the price below $100. I also like Barry's comment on stainless + micarta. A "modern" interpretation of a traditional would be really neat. We ARE half way there with the micarta (which I think is a great idea). But I think the blade number (4 vs. 3 ) and the bail are examples of where we may not want to skimp. A 4-blade knife is not as common and I'd love to see a modern take on a bail that was appropriate for a SS micarta-covered scout knife.

( :D Instead of that cap-lifter can we get an android charging port? :D )

I kinda like the idea of a Modern interpretation of the Scout (Micarta and Stainless), but that Ivory Micarta just looks good with shiny or patina'd blades.... So, I'm kind of undecided.

Seriously, smooth ivory micarta would be a good compromise.

Tsarbomba- who made that camp-glo scout? and has anyone seen the white scaled scouts that occasionally come up on fleabay? i think they're ulster or utica , but either way i believe it's a jigged delrin handle. anyone care to chime in on the actual material?

The Camp-Glo is a Camillus, if I had to hazard a guess I'd say from the 1970s. Same frame as the regular Camillus and Camco scouts in the picture, plus once "charged" the scales glow in the dark. :o Pretty solid little camp knife, and one you don't often come across.

Haven't seen a scout in white composite that I can remember, much less jigged, but I will surely keep an eye out for them. A guy can't live on demo knives alone. :D

Wow, enough ideas ( and great ones) for the next 10 years, my vote in wharny or spear point in ebony with shield and end cap as I tend to drop my knives the older I get....

Since there is an actual more official thread, I think that I will go ahead and close this one. This has been a fun fantasy thread, but I feel like having it open will only contribute to confusion. If you want to know what is actually going on with the possibility of a 2016 Blade Forums knife, click on the link in the post above.
