Hey fellows, first of all I wish you all a great Sunday!
Here's a question for discussion that I often wonder about: how many people actually carry a knife on a daily basis? When I am walking through the city, I always enjoy knowing that there is that sharp companion in my pocket and when something needs to be cut, I have the solution. I feel like the EDC knife is like a nice watch, and many people carry a watch but I don't have James Bond's Xray glasses to see if they also carry a knife. Personally I don't know anyone else who carries a knife (I live in Germany) so I guess it is not that common, but may be I am wrong. I know that it depends also strongly on where you live, rural or urban environment and of course the national laws. I know that here are folks from everywhere around the world, so I am curious to hear your opinion, how do you feel about that topic?
Stay sharp and safe my friends! And Thanks for your answers!

I carry a pair. Currently two: a Hinderer XM-24 and Spartan HF-Large. These are my favorites. I might add my Microtech- Fixed blade EDC if I am on special assignment.

I usually carry 2
One small victorinox rambler on my keychain and a locking blade in my pocket

Here in Alabama, my guess is that most men carry a knife.. I would guess as many as 75-80% in rural areas. Many carry and adore a hand-me-down from fathers.
In Alabama, we enjoy the God given right to protect ourselves legally with firearms or blades if necessary,
Stay sharp, stay free.

I carry a couple and have for the last 55 years. I wouldn’t think of starting my day without loading my pockets with the things that I need. My wallet, keys, a pen, a couple knives and at this point my reading glasses. I know that some occasion will arise to open something or dislodge something or trim a loose thread. I detest flying and visiting buildings that require I “de-knife” myself before entry. Inevitable I will have a hangnail or find that loose thread in need of trimming and have no means of remedy. Why wouldn’t a sensible person carry a knife?

I carry a knife every day. Either on my hip or in my pocket. And I keep extras in my workshop, the consoles of my Jeep and truck, and in my desk drawer. Use them all the time out in my shop, around the house, and out in the wilderness.

I mean, this is a knife enthusiast forum, so the odds are pretty good that the answer will be "yes". If you ask on a forum for, I dunno, craft brewing, you'll get a different distribution of answers.

For me it's almost always, with the footnote that a lot of the time, "knife" means "folding box cutter". One of those lackluster knife-based substitutes that you can pick up just about anywhere, now.

Why would I commit such sin? Well, I work around steel and concrete, and lots of things that will catch a pocket clip and bend it right back to straight for you! I respect my knives way too much to take them into these places.

I always carry a main folder and small Swiss army knife. Always.

I often only use my blade once or twice a day and even then sometimes wouldn't need to if we're being honest. But I wouldn't be without them.

Now between the scissors and tweezers on the SAK.....probably use those a dozen times or more in a day.

I'm guessing most of us here know the value of an EDC. I'm always on the lookout for people carrying when out and about. Years ago I didn't see many but lately I have noticed an increase in the folding box cutter knives in pocket.

I live in Nebraska, a rural state. Get outside of the 2 socialist held cities and I would venture 75-90 % of teen-adult males have a knife in pocket.

Inside the cities it’s probably 40 ish percent. That will climb now that we have struck down the nanny state knife laws.
I can only think of two major cities in Nebraska and I thought Omaha was more relaxed.
Every day since the third grade of elementary school. Don't ask what year it was then, I have a bad memory. Back then, in the good old days, nobody was horrified if someone had a pocket knife with them at school.
I remember days and times like those you mention. If a guy did not have a knife in his pocket he was the exception

Most all males anywhere I have ever lived carry a knife. As stated, some more than one. It’s very common to see a clip sticking out of a pants pocket. On the other hand, I personally don’t know any women that daily carry a knife. I’m sure that there are, and some that belong to this forum may chime in with their 2 cents but my bet is that the majority do not. I would expect to hear all members on a knife forum when asked to say they routinely carry.

I carry everyday. It’s second nature at this point just like carrying my phone , wallet , sunglasses , truck fob and house keys.

Different knives for different scenarios. 99% of the time it’s a folder and/or SAK. Once in a great while it’s a fixed blade but that’s just when there’s a camping trip or outdoors situation.

I usually have a folder or fixed blade on my person. Plus my Leatherman or Gerber tool is close at hand.
