I'd wager the percentages have gone up considerably since 2007.

These stats are also related to self-defense, so I dont think they account for people that carry knives solely to do EDC type work, and are also in areas (myself included) where admitting to carrying with the intent to defend with it will get you in trouble with the law. I agree with you in regards to more people carrying these days though, I'm seeing way more pocket clips on young people than I used to.

Getting an accurate number is like gathering an actually accurate census of all the homeless in NYC. In my area lots of blue collar folks carry and we'll, gang bangers for lack of a better word

What a relief! For a moment, I thought you were going to say that the blue collar workers were homeless. I'm glad they have knives...and homes!

From what I have seen, very few people carrying knives, whether they are male or female.

Sure there are some around here...especially the homeless people.
Almost every single homeless person around here is carrying some form of knife; sometimes they have a hatchet or saw as well.

Among the not homeless population though, almost no one.

As I have said before, I carry two or three knives to make up for the people who don't carry any. ;)

I would assume most of the unhoused would have knives here as well to cut out there cardboard signs!

People have different feelings about the homeless and while people can be without housing for various reasons, it's hard to deny the reality of that as a survival situation. I imagine a knife or especially a SAK or pliers-based multi-tool being extremely helpful.

People do different kinds of charitable things, throwing coins in a cup, supporting local food shelters, etc. A while back, I got a whole bunch of ultra budget knives and multi-tools. I kept them in the car and gave them out to homeless guys during city trips over the course of last year.

I think we've milked this one for all it's worth, folks...

...back to general knife discussion.
