What popular knives that you don't understand why

Title says it. What knife design would you have given a :thumbdn: to if you were a manufacturer that have taken off? For me the Spydercos, expensive, short blade with needle points and smooth bellies and all of the ESEEs smaller than the -3    which includes all of the neck knives with no handles that you have to wrap with cord. I would have thought they were too small of a knife other than a novelty. Painting them pink and lime green, I would have asked the designer if he were on drugs and good luck finding a new manufacturer. So much for my marketing instincts.

Direware for sure but also the Sebenza. Don't quite see the point of a nightmare grind either, though that is not make/model specific.

Spyderco PM2, Military and Yojimbo, anything wharncliffe, ZT, Direware, Medford, Chris Reeve, Hinderer. Not a big assisted opening fan either. Big heavy overbuilt knives just don't do it for me either. The exception is the Strider SnG and Spyderco Gayle Bradley.

Here are some:
- Flippers (overrated)
- Any Zero tolerance knives (why not just get a fixed blade)
- Any Boker knives
- Any CRKT knives
- Any Kershaw knives
- Any thick tank folder aka sharpen prybar (why not just get a fixed blade)
- Cold steel knives
- Recurve blades
- Tanto blades
- Damascus blades (overrated)

The first that come to mind are kershaws and gerbers.

Kershaws I find always to be too small. They never feel comfortable in hand and the blades are so thin and not made in steel that's anything to write home about.

Aside from one particular Gerber (I think it was called lmf 2 or something), I've never seen one that looked appealing. I saw a bunch at Walmart yesterday...if they were free I wouldn't take them.

Griptilian and all the FRN handled Spydercos, I don't like the hollow, plastic feeling
Anything with colored bone handles

Tenacious, Caly ( seems too expensive for what you get)
Grptilians (HATE that handle, replacement handles make it too expensive)
Emersons (materials and fit and finish don't match the price; Hogue makes better knives in that price range with similar materials.)
Assisted knives (always seems like a bandaid for poor pivot action)
Slipjoints, friction folders (local laws aside, I don't see the reason)
OTFs (illegal almost everywhere, seems dangerous to carry, most are very expensive but have only okay steels and build materials, the design seems to preclude a robust lock)
Medford and other custom bricks (12oz+? That's like carrying a can of soda in your pocket.)

Any knife design that doesn't have a fine, needle like tip or an opening hole. ;)

Any folder which has a straight design, with a big dull tip which sits ABOVE the center line of the knife. Give me a nice, acute tip, which angles down from your wrist for maximum utility performance (spyderco military, paramilitary, Delica, etc)

Oh, and flippers.
