What(reasonable) steel would you want a Tri-Ad folder in?

Cold Steel only makes Tri-Ad folders in AUS-8. What steel would you pay, say, double for? So, for instance, a $70 street price large Voyager would be a bargain in what steel? A $100 Spartan. A $200 Rajah II.

I would think it would have to be a steel which equals or exceeds AUS-8's toughness, but with better edge retention.

What do you think? What steel would you pay double to Cold Steel for in a production Tri-Ad folder?

If you go to a websites that sell knife making supplies, the price increase on a folder like the American Lawman to make it in S-30v would be likely well under $10, however, Cold Steels VG-1 is a great steel, and it would be nice to have their entire Triad lineup available in that steel.

I'm in the "let's not go overboard" camp becasue I'd rather not pay $100+ for many knives these days. So, 154cm or vg10 would be a good compromise. But, i'm happy with aus8-a.

I would pay good money for the AL and/or the Recon 1 in 154CM or equivalent. Which is why I am already talking to a custom knife maker to make me a blade for the existing frames. The design and other materials just deserve better. I had the same done by Andrew Demko for my Black Rhino (CPM-154 blade) and it is just excellent.
This was a heated debate on the Cold Steel forums, and we never came to a concensus. I am fine with AUS8A in the Voyagers because they are so damn cheap, they are incredible value for money.
But the G10-line of folders (certainly the AL and Recon 1) would instantly become higher-end production folders by including a higher-end steel blade. They would take a back seat to no other mass produced folder. I mean, take the Spyderco Military. All G10 linerlock with a premium steel blade. How would a Recon 1 be any less than that if it had a well-HT'd equivalent steel?
Full disclosure: I love the Military. ;)

Most of the cost increase would be due to the increased difficulty of machining. ;)

I really liked VG-1 in the old Voyagers.

Me too! VG-1 Seki City. They came razor sharp, with my limited usage thay held an edge for a good long time and the way CS finished the blades were mirror like. I see they're starting to gravitate to some kind of dull blasted Chinese blade.

I have (had) large in CP & Tanto. We had our daughter move as she recently got married and the box with her small but respectable box of blades disappeared when she got all of her stuff in Germany. She and I are so pissed since Dad bought her all of her knives.

For the discontinued large Voyager tanto (vg-1) hat I gave her NIB, I told her to put at least $80 on the claim sheet from the moving company! And we thought that was the safer way to get them to her, rather than me sending them in the mail.

I had removed the clip and sanded it for her and she loved the large, feather light, super sharp knife weighing a few ounces at most.

70 for a voyager? yes
100 for a spartan? yes
200 for rajah? I don't know, never held one.

I would pay 150 for a Recon 1 in 154m though.

154cm, VG10, VG1, I'll take any of these

D2 would be my pick, after that VG-10 or 154cm, never needed anything to hold an edge longer than that. The Sandvic stuff in my Skyline is good enough for me.
