What 's the lowest serial number that you have seen on a Schrade 165 UH?

i'm obviously very new. should i have put this in a sub-forum? I had read that this might be one of the first off the line.

any help would be appreciated greatly

Thanks for pointed that out Bob, but he error was on the number, not the letters. It's a 165 UH. I am also indebted to your for the link to the Schrade forum!

well, that's cool. I picked it up at an estate sale on the third day for $2.50, it was the most splendid knife and I was familiar with the brand, and I like it better than the kershaw in my pocked. not to sound like a greedhead, but what is something like this worth and is it an original production?

That knife is in pretty rough shape for a collector but would make a great user. I have a few older Schrades though not that specific model and my guess on pricing in that condition would be somewhere between $50 -$100. You got a steal so why not just go ahead and enjoy using it. Pass it on to your kin someday.

I'm new to all of this so I don't even know what rough condition is. The knife is physically more solid than any I have ever owned, and it cleaned up remarkably. Can someone define what "rough shape" is for me? I would think that the 315th knife of such a renowned series would be worth more to a collector

It's got a nice patina too- dont compromise it!!!!!!!!

Just clean up the handle maybe

It's not mint or factory-new, but I wouldn't call it "rough" either. Considering the low serial number, I'd say it's an excellent collectible as-is. The green gunk, verdigris, is normal on old brass and is probably the result of the knife being stored in the sheath, and can be cleaned off gently.

If it were mine I'd clean the knife - very mild soap and without scrubbing hard, wipe some oil on the blade, and set it aside as a valuable collectors item. And do store the knife not in the sheath.
