What SAK tools did you once think .....

Not the awl. Some models have an actual small chisel. Maybe someone will post a pic.

Oh, that's interesting. I've never seen that before. That's a cool picture, too.

I've had to use the bottle opener as a scraper before, so I suppose it could have some utility.

The fingernail file actually fits some Philips head screws. I've used the tip for scraping too. The backside of the fingernail file is completely blank except for a nail nick, though. Seems like wasted space.

I once thought the awl was useless. Except I went out of my way to try to find ways to use it, and it is now one of my favorite tools.

I also thought the corkscrew was useless. Except it turned out that it's actually the best wine bottle opener in the house. I'd be willing to try the philips screwdriver instead, though, on my next SAK, since opening bottles of wine seems to be about all I could find to do with it.

The woodsaw works surprisingly well on bread. It does better on denser breads like a bagel or ciabatta.

I'm not convinced of the utility of the hook. I'd probably try to avoid it on the next SAK I buy.

That fish scale scraper that indicates centimetres on the one side and inches on the other.
I don't get it, I find it useless.
I don't know what to scrape and how and as a ruler it is to small and has no MM indicator

Scissors and tweezers. Both originally seemed ridiculous to me but I use them almost daily now.

This has about all the tools I need. Especially the scissors.

It may seem odd but while I’ve been carrying a SAK for about 15 years, until only recently I didn’t really care about the blades. After all I carry another knife and if I need to cut something its faster and easier to use a one handed knife. I carry a SAK for the other tools.

The knife!

I always thought I needed a giant folder on me but after purchasing and EDC's a vic farmer for the past year+ it gets used more often than any other blade I'm carrying that day.

The fish scaler can be used as a makeshift fork :)

For me, it's the can opener. It has many functions, but mainly gets used as a phillips driver. I've discovered that the tweezers aren't half bad, either. I usually use a pair of field tweezers, but tried the ones on a SAK Classic on a lark. Worked right dandy.

I have the big SAK (the biggest there was in '93)
It has a small pliers, I use them als a large tweezers. It is a bit more solid.
It even has a pen, I use!

I used to think the corkscrew was useless (I'm not a wine drinker), then I got one with the little eyeglass screwdriver bit that fits into it...

Same here, then I read that they are good for getting knots untied.
I just ordered one of the little screwdrivers that stores in it
so I guess it'll be a good place to keep it.;)

the hook.... never in my life i thought i would need one-- until i got to carry heavy fishes on a string! it saves my fingers....

and i also agree about the toothpick... its the reason my farmer and soldier alox dont get much pocket time.

the scissors always seemed like a space waste. then one day i could not get the blade around a tight zip tie so i slide the scissors in to gnaw away... there was no gnawing, only a snap and the zip tie was gone... now it's my go to zip tie remover, saving a trip to the tool box for diagonal cut pliers.

If I have to use a SAK at all for the job, when scaling fish I would much prefer the knife blade for scraping scales. However, after having done it once, I don't ever want to do it again, unless I can get somebody to clean the SAK afterward who is helpless to refuse :D . However, I have used the scaler as a probe, pickle and olive fork, pry bar for odd shaped stuff, and enough other odds and ends that I like having one handy. One neat thing about many SAK implements is they are often very useful to perform chores other than for what they are designed.
