What SAK tools do you think should be dropped?

THe thing is, victorinox tools come in pairs. So if you get X you get Y as well on each layer. Thats why the parcel hook is there when you have a scissors. because they can fit it there :)

i believe that the parcel hook is for picking up those thin plastic bags that you get at supermarkets, i know its a lot more comfortable picking up a 10-15mm wide SAK than a ultra thin bit of plastic that cuts into your fingers

the most useless tool i have on a sak is that little toothpick

Good points so far, i guess the hook has more uses than i thought....

i still *HATE* the LED flashlight though (the one actually in the knife toolbay, not the scales), *NOTHING* you can do will make me like it, it's a flawed design, the switch is too sensitive and the batteries too obscure

if they're going to retain the flashlight, i'd make a few changes to it....

1; move the stupid switch from the top of the light to the side, in order to use the light, you have to flip it up, or even better, put the switch on the *bottom* of the light, making it ambidextrous, you hold the knife vertically in your hand and push up with your thumb to activate momentary illumination, press in and pull back to lock the light on, when the light is locked on, you can either hold the knife vertically, or lower the flashlight horizontally and hold it horizontally

this would solve the accidental turn-ons as the switch would be protected inside the knife

2; switch to a more common button-cell battery

3; get rid of the 3MM LED, put in a 5MM, 5MM LED's put out more usable light, it may require a case redesign though

I've only seen and handled (and bought...$13 "clearance" at Wal*Mart....) a Signature II Lite Ruby. I've taken a look at, I think, a Spartan Lite, on a web site or three, and I wondered what that red button on top of a gray area was. I either need to see better photographs (hint, hint) or I need to handle one of the larger Victorinox Lite knives, in order to get a better idea of its embedded LED light.

Could Victorinox perhaps replace two of the lesser-needed tools with a 5mm LED, and have it so that it folds out, like just another tool, yet keeping the on/off switch inaccessible, folded under, unless and until the LED light is folded out? The batteries could also be replaced with the light extended.

Are we starting a Victorinox "suggestion box" here...? ;)

the red button on the top of the flashlight housing *IS* the switch, it has two positions, press straight down for momentary, press down and push forward to lock it in the on position

that switch is one of the light's biggest flaws, it's too sensitive, when i had my Spartan Lite, i'd often pull it from my pocket to find the LED flashlight lit, because *something* had pressed the switch into the on position

someone here on BF did mod their Vic LED light to remove the constant on detent, thus making the light momentary only, but that apparently was done out of frustration as the light will turn itself on at inopportune times

simply moving the switch to the side, or the bottom would alleviate that problem

then again, IMHO, the best solution is to drop the crappy light, it sucks anyway, and it actually *reduces* the durability of the whole knife....

drop a Spartan in water, shake it off, dry it, and the knife is no worse for wear.

drop a Spartan Lite in water and the LED light will short out, potentially corroding the batteries, shake it out replace the batteries, scrape the corrosion off the battery terminals, hope the LED isn't burnt out due to being shorted, dry it and the knife *might* be good as new, or the flashlight may be dead.......

Wow, That's insane man. In about 20 years you're teeth will fall out. I'm sure your nails are really scratchy which will not help with caressing women.

At least clip your nails man. But hey.....whatever blows your dress up I guess...

Haven't had a cavity yet, nor any complaints from women. :D

One of the things I find satisfying about knives is that they are functionally complete without any electric components. A bastard union of the two violates the spirit of the blade. I will never buy a pocket knife or multitool that requires batteries. Never. :(

I don't use my nail file for it's purpose either. A second knife bade definetely would be more useful.

I avoid any LED equipped model.

The tweezers get used, both on my SAK's and Swiss CArd. I maybe used the toothpick once. I would recommend eliminating those from the SAK. Mine tend to disappear alot. Cheap to replace but a pain.

I cleaned my Delica out today with that. Also recently used it to reset my MP3 player. Oh the uses of a SAK...hahah.

I've never had a strong interest in the LED equipped SAKs. I had always planned to clip a Photon to the key ring of a SAK but never got around to it. I keep one on my car keys and it gets used quite often.

Okay, Vincent, what's *your* feeling on the Victorinox LED light (the one in the knife toolbay, not the scales), the toolbay light seems to be pretty universally reviled here....

I always have an LED on my keyring or attached to whatever SAK I'm carrying so if Vic got it right, I would welcome one on the knife itself. The one that comes in the toolbay now is weak. They need to redo it or get rid of it.

I thin the one built into the scale is great as long as the can get the pen, pin, toothpic and tweezers in there too. If they are going to put one in the toolbay, it needs to be removable so you can take it out and illuminate whatever you need to use your SAK on.

The can opener may be headed for obselecence. Last weekend when I went camping, everybody had cans with pull tabs but me.

Not so fast! That tool also serves as a screwdriver, staple remover, wire stripper, pry bar, and many, many other things!

So then, shall we be seeing more use of the Vic multi-purpose hook? :D
