What seperates Emersons from the rest

Every once in a while Emerson released a framelock. This is an HD7 and one of the first ones ever made. The newer ones have steel lockbar insert and run on bearings and have standoffs. I wish they would make it part of their regular line up.

I prefer the backspacered Emersons to the standoff ones and the washers to bearings. Still I would grab a framelock Emerson if you get the chance. Alot of the older ones have lock bars that go all the way over. They are from a time when early lockup was not popular. The newer ones have lockups that don’t go all the way over right away.

I have a HD7 from 2014 that had very late lockup when I first received it (the one on the left). I've used it quite a bit since then and it hasn't developed any blade play. Until it does I see no reason to do anything with it. As long as it locks up tight I'm happy with it.

I am so upset about missing out on the hd7 the last time they released it. I still lay awake at night kicking myself. It is such a great knife.

I really cannot fathom why Emerson doesn’t make it part of their permanent line up.

But yes all the older HD7s seem to have that same late lock up.

Id say design and durability. Mine fit myhand perfectly, the wave is ingenious not just for fast opening but as a thumb rest. Theyre just high quality heavy duty knives with great character and history.

I like Busse fixed blades and Emerson folders for very similar reasons.

After buying and selling three CQC8s I can say this about my experience:

They feel great in the hand.
The actions never loosened up.
The steel was soft.
The Wave feature is great.
The linerlocks were hit or miss, to the point that I sold them because I wouldn't trust them under hard use.
They were too expensive.
They were easy to take apart.

I wish they would make a production framelock model, not the 7 since tantos are useless but something more along the lines of the 8 or 13. Ti frame, bearings, ideally S35VN.
