I was wondering what SFM you found was about right for a 3/4" wheel run for maybe 30min at a time? (wheel from Beaumont) can you cool the bearings with water? is 4500SFM to high?
Thanks guys
Daniel

4,500SFM

x12= 54,000 surface inches per minute

3/4"
Pi x D
.75 x Pi =2.36 inches

54,000 / 2.36

23,000 rpm ish

I'd say that's too fast

Those bearings in a motor are at 3,400

I wouldn't pour water on a hot bearing.

Slower speed gives you control, no reason to not go slow.

10-20% ish

Run them just fast enough to do the job. They are spinning so fast because of their size. I had a 1 inch wheel get so hot that it separated the rubber from the spindle and the rubber came apart. The bearings were ok though. The Beaumont small wheels are about $60 a piece so I won't do this again. It was unnecessary to run it so fast. Larry

If you can't keep your finger on the bearing because it's too hot then you ran it too fast. Obviously, touching the bearing is only to be done with the machine off, as in, not running.
