What sharpeners do you take into the field?

I'm looking at some Lansky sharpeners, specifically the multi-sharpener. I know some use sandpaper, but I'm not the best sharpener.

Other options? Your favorite?

I have a DMT Coarse/Fine Diafold that is my primary sharpening tool at home. It's very lightweight, durable, and the handle covers the sharpening part. Very convenient. As an added bonus its shape makes it well suited to sharpening axes, too. I made my new Fiskars hatchet shaving sharp last night with that and a leather strop loaded with CrO2.

I usually just take a good ceramic rod. It would take a lot of work to use one to bring something back from the dead, but it does touch ups very well.

Diamond rod. 1/2 round and the other end is a diamond spike. Most my sheaths have an Arkansas stone in a pouch to smooth it out.

Two-sided strop using Bark River compound - black on the rough side, green on the smooth side. And sometimes a DMT diafold fine/X-fine.

An old Eze-Lap 1/4" diamond rod that fits into the handle.Works great after many years !!

Ditto. I second that motion. Or third it. Or something...

If you're using a machete, hatchet, or ax, an 8" bastard file, too.

+1 for the e-z lap 1/4" diamond rod! also a mini steel that fits along side it in its leather sheath (approx. 3 1/2" long)

Actually I have enough room in one of ym bags to store my spyderco sharpmaker...I keep it in my EOD bag on the inside pocket, I got this bag fro countycomm.com for like $17 or so...I keep this bag in my vehicle at all times when I am going somewhere...It has various tools in it along with the sharpmaker...ans a few spare knives as well as flashlights and batteries...

I have two I like. Both are Eze-Lap. Brass Sportsmens model and a two sided flat model that folds into the handle like a butterfly knife.

Scythe honing stone medium grit, cut in a half good for axe and machete, could do for knife in need, and Stihl flat file for chainsaw saw 150 mm for chips and dents, fine sharpening I do at home
