im also new here my name is pete i love knives the outdoors and make and design knives for a hobbie.

My BK9 Sheath is available to order, the BK2 sheath will be available shortly. They are all made to order, your choice of color, vertical/horizontal, square or tapered end, standard or drop belt loop, and other accessories. Wait time is 1-2 weeks. My site is temporarily down at the moment, but I can be reached here on the forums, or at sagewoodgear@gmail.com

I kept my BK2 sheath simple.
I actually liked the stock sheath my BK2 came in. I never had any issues with the blade getting dull from being pulled from the sheath, and lets face it, blade retention is never a problem with the BK2 factory sheath.

I removed the rivets attaching the belt loop to the extender and attatched a Tek Lok. Now it rides a little higher on my hip and doesnt move or slip at all on my belt. All it took was a dremel to remove the rivets and a $17 tek lok. Its not as sexy as some of the beautiful sheaths mentioned above, but it gets the job done.

Goose, wanna start my post by saying... Very Nice! (Borat voice) I haven't seen some of your more recent work and it's damn impressive.

Pete,

Welcome the the forum! And greetings from another Arizonan too. For me I'm always considering "options" with carry so you almost never get "just a sheath and a Tek-Lok" when I'm done but I'll put some pics of my Kydex work here. Pretty straight forward.... Kydex and all the bells and whistles as far as "background" goes.

BK2 w/ESEE-Molle Back, Firesteel Holder and ESEE-Acc. Pouch:

The Molle-back can be used to "pimp" a sheath just fine but to be honest my sheath options blow it away (Danglers, Belt-Loops etc.)..... it is very useful in attaching to molle webbing though. Also consider that in one setup like this you can have alot of ground covered as far as gear goes, in that picture: navigation, fire and tinder are already covered before you even get into the tin area.... add some cordage to the exterior, etc....?

BK2 w/ESEE-Acc. Pouch, Firesteel Holder and my drop adapter for the Tek-Lok (pat. pend):

That knife also has blue liners that I forgot to "showcase" in those pics but I'll let the owner show them off;)

This really is the best of both worlds and I can set the pommel height anywhere in relation to your belt-line... so it's out of the way and snaps on and off quickly. I've got a 3pc setup for this I'll post later and all I can say is that it's "pretty awesome"..... and gives you every option possible.

BK2 Pouch-Sheath (my design): (BK7 also shown)

This is a pretty basic setup I make alot and this one will be pack-mounted so the only thing not shown in the pics is the addition of a pair of Molle-Loks.

Now I'm getting to my favorite setups..... 2x knife combos.. this is how I carry my gear.

There's another ring for attachment behind the sheath (not shown) and it can be mounted in three different positions... the one you can see can be mounted anywhere along the side of the sheath.

I like a firesteel holder but there's nothing more practical than a bic lighter mounted to a sheath... sometimes you just gotta light something on fire NOW!:D
Haven't seen any other sheathmakers doing this and I just think it's kewl.

That should give you some groundwork for sheath options and I hope this helps.

AMEN!!! I am going to be placing an order shortly for myself and a buddy of mine who just bought his first BK7

Gotta decide Kydex, Leather or Nylon or a hybrid. Skystorm did Leather for my BK2 and its great. He has made even more improvements on this design since I got mine. Heres a pic, Skystorm does good leather at good prices.

For my BK9 I have both a Skystorm leather sheath as well as a kydex by azwelke. I use both of them depending on the carry option.

That is one of my first ones in that style! If you decide to upgrade at some point, shoot me a message and I will cut you a great deal.

Skystorm,
which type of fastener is more durable in the long-term, the button-style (I'm not sure of the proper name) or the snap?

I very much like the 'frontier" look to the button style, and it seems it would have many other advantages, but is it as good a fastener as a snap? Better?

Thanks

Neither is really more durable than the other, Some people prefer the sam browne buttons over snaps. I find snaps easier to work with on horizontal mount sheaths but that is just me. Personally I use pouch style sheaths for my own knives because I hate retention straps of any kind.
