What should be my first Spyderco knife?

Flat ground Delica VG-10 handle color of your choice, if you want a handy size edc for $55 or so

Get a little bigger blade with Stretch for $20 more. Great comfy knife if you can stand the blade shape. I carry one often, instead of the Endura.

Para2 if you want more high tech & semi tactical. Cool lock & S30V for under $100 if you can find it in stock. There's a good reason they sell out everywhere.

Spend the money on the model you really want, even if it is more expensive, rather than buying an entry level model and then upgrading, two, or three times.

I agree on a Salt knive, my personal favorite is the Atlantic Salt. If you dont go with one of those I would say a full flat ground Delica, many colors to choose from and you cant beat the price/blade combo.

New to this forum and I'm fascinated by spyderco brand knives and would like to get some suggestions on what my first spyderco knife should be. I'm an outdoors man type, I hike, backpack & climb and recently started sea kayaking. Any thoughts you can give will surely be appreciated.
I'm a hiking, back packing and kayaking nut. If you're kayaking in Salt Water, you might consider one of the Salt series knives. If fresh water, you have MANY choices. A GREAT starting point for anyone interested in Spyderco knives is either the Delica 4 or (if you want something a little bigger) Endura 4. The Endura will do just about anything you ask of it in the hiking, backpacking and kayaking dept. The delica has a SMALL advantage in my opinion due to it's size. It makes a great neck knife while kayaking either in a kydex sheath like the one I use for my dragonfly below for jogging or on a break away paracord. The only problem is that once you get one, you'll want the other, then another until your wife or girlfriend screams, "enough knives already!" lol I did a review on my Endura 4 here: http://centavogear.blogspot.com/2012/05/spyderco-spyderco-endura4-flat-ground.html
I need to get busy and knock one out for my delica. Here's the Kydex sheath I spoke of for my dragonfly:

It's perfect for Kayak Fishing too but may be a little short on some hiking tasks.

+1 on endura. But I have never used the H1 steel, and if you are taking it in saltwater frequently, maybe the salt would be better. For EDC (and even abuse) the VG-10 on my endura has served me well, aside from making me buy other spydies for other days of the week..:)

Thanks all for your suggestions. After reading posts I have narrowed it down to three models Endura, Delica and Pacific Salt and instead of getting just one I've decided to get all three, reason being I think each one will serve a different purpose. Delica for my EDC (small enough to carry around office), Endura for backpacking and Salt obviously for kayaking use. I just hope I don't get addicted collecting more of these knives. Again thanks everybody!

Paramilitary 2. It is my favourite folding knife by far. I was new to Spyderco until recently, and I ordered the tenacious series of knives (persistence, ambitious, resilience) as well as the Para 2.
It is apples and oranges in comparison of the tenacious series and PM2. The G10 handles on the PM2 absolutely grab your hand, and the handle length is perfect for me (I am 6'6 and have large hands). It is lighter than one would suspect, and smooth to open with a flick of the thumb. I highly recommend the Paramilitary 2.

Whoops didn't see your previous post!

Awesome choises my Endura4 and Delica4 are both FFG in VG-10....My Pacific Salt is full Spyde-edge and bright yellow with a lanyard...I did a little research and H1 serrated edge is the only way to go..(in my opinion)..

Throw in a couple beloved traditionals, one or two fixed blades and I could live with that..(if I had to)

Endura 4 FFG hands down. It has all the design attributes Spyderco is famous for at an affordable price. You have the round hole a pocket clip excellent VG10 steel near perfect handle ergonomics and blade geometry. In my humble opinion handle and edge geometry are what really made Spyderco as popular and successful as they are. The way I see it is if you love the Endura you will love almost anything Spyderco produces. Ive tried every major brand From Cold Steel to Benchmade and nothing compares to Spyderco for me. The Endura 2nd Gen is what turned me into a Spyderco fan. Sean

You're right about that! My spyderco's are growing! Recently added another Delica(Black FRN, plain), a lady bug(green foliage, plain), Tasman salt(yellow, plain) & Urban(orange) to my collection.

Yup lots of forum members suggested this one and I got a little intrigue and now I am proud owner of Para-military 2 digi cam. I love how this knife fits on my hands.

Dude that's some serious collection! Where did you get that case/bag?

It's called a "SpyderPac." It's a Spyderco product. They come in two sizes (I have one of each): A large 30-pocket, and a small 18-pocket.
