Ok so I really didn't want to spend over 120 for a new knife. The best knife I have at this point is a small gerber.
The two knives I was looking at currently are the griptilian and the presidio ultra.
They are both right around 100 bucks, is one better than the other? Is the steel on one better than the other?

The other option is going with a custom Grip for $160 getting it neon green and black like a zombie edition. And sv30 steel.
Would this be the best option?

If you're looking for a deal, I would wait for the new HK 14715bk : http://www.benchmade.com/products/14715

Looks like it will be selling for just over a hundred bucks, which will make it a real deal in terms of an affordable, USA-made knife -and it looks sweet. One guy started a thread in General last week after receiving his so hopefully they are just around the corner.

Between the Grip and Presidio, I prefer the Presidio, though I only have the aluminum handle version. If you like tanto blades, you can score a tanto aluminum handle Presidio for under $120 now, as it was just discontinued. If you are going to spend $160, maybe take a look at the Rift, too, before you pull the trigger on a Grip. The Rift rules.

Good luck making your choice.

The are a couple things about the custom Grip vs the rift.
I can get the grip in any color I want, I would choose white grip with everything else black.
And for 160 I could get it with the SV30 steel.

Sounds like it will be a cool looking Grip. Please post pics if you end up going that route.

I would recommend a 940 or 707. You could easily find a deal on one for around $100-$120. But if your going grip and you're ok with the cost get the custom.

Yeah Rift or Custom Grip. If your budget is tight though look at the exchange. I got a rift off there for a heck of a deal! I love the grip I have (satin blade black handle, paid $72 for it 6 or so months ago new) but I still regret not going the custom route despite the price. A black blade black hardware blue handled s30v fullsize grip would be soooo sweet! I may still get one at some point.

Also consider a Ritter Griptilian. Gets you the S30V steel at about the same price as a custom, less wait and to me a better blade shape, though you may not agree.

Look through the exchange for a used 940 or spend 5 more dollars and get a new Ritter Mini Grip--IMO one of the best all around indoor and outdoor EDC's out there.

Please help guys lol, I am now torn between the custom grip, a rift, or a volli 1000003. The volli and rift have g10 handle, and the volli has s30v blade. Which of these knives are the best? And can you get different scales for all of them?

The presidio ULTRA is not the same as a standard presidio. It is in fact, a much lower grade in my opinion. It uses 440C, which isn't terrible, but not as high grade as what's offered in the regular presidio (or special edition). The grips on the Ultra are plastic instead of aluminum. Personally I really like aluminum grips, as they show wear, and I really like the beat up look.

ok either the Volli or Rift. Which is better and why?
I would get either for around 140-150
The Volli has s30v and is assisted.
Why is the rift MSRP so much higher?

Quick answer? Buy what you can afford. Get an Axis-based model in satin, in either PE or Combo. Owning a bunch of knives can be fun, but many of us only need a select few that we'd actually use.

I've owned Rifts but didn't keep them. The Volli is just right for me and I love the S30V drop point blade. No you can't get different scales from Benchmade unless you're doing the custom Grip, but there's a couple of guys on the forum who will make what you want for a reasonable price.

I would choose the grip as I prefer my grip over the presidio ultra. The custom grip would be cool just because it is personalized and you can get your choice of steel. I really enjoy the axis lock, grip Ergos, and the cpm154 has worked well for me.
