Well thanks for looking on this post. I am new to this forum so lets start with the post

i would can have a 100 dollar and a little bit plus knife but my question is should i get a starter knife or go big like buy a PM2 or a griptilian or just buy a endura or delica? or even a tenacious?

Thanks .

I would suggest you take a look around your kitchen and see if you have any knives that measure close to the knives you are interested in and see how they fit in hand length wise.

Once you get the sizing down, price shop for averages in the exchange and do some searching for common gripes on each model and see if they are A: common and B: something you can live with.

PM2 gripes include:
-thin tip which can break when used for prying (don't pry with a knife!)
-It "feels" like you get a lot of handle length for the seemingly shorter blade length, but I would bet the length is fine for edc roles for how common it is. That being said, I handled then on two separate occasions and it just wasn't for me.

Griptilian gripes:
-plastic handles
-decent but lackluster steel selection unless you find an older M2hss or M4 model. But the 154cm works fine for edc as well. (Similar to the PM2 handle)
-plenty of scales readily available for a swap in, but the cheapest I have seen run around $50ish. But to be honest, I have heard that they completely change the grip to a Fantastic EDC piece!
-------------
Now for a few questions.
-do you have any means to sharpen this knife?
-do you have any experience in sharpening knives?
-are you experienced with carbon steel?
-do you have any aversions to a traditional knife, or is it just preferential for one hand operation.
-what do you do for a living? if this knife will be carried at work, this might be helpful to know.

Spyderco is a great company and you really can't go wrong with any of the knives that you mentioned. I don't completely understand your price limit though. Is it $100? If so you can buy a few knives of different sizes to get started. Ontario Rat 1 and Rat 2 are Around $30 each and will give you 2 sizes. Both are amazing values. If you want to get a nice but inexpensive knife that is made in USA, look at the Kershaw Link. It ranges from $35 to $45 depending on the scales and blade finish. If you look hard enough you can find a PM2 for $100 and that will be a great all around blade. Also the new cold Steel American Lawman in CTS-XHP is under $100. Spyderco Delica is a great EDC.. so is the endura. I prefer the Rat 1 over the Tenacious. Look up some videos on youtube. So many options man!

Spyderco Delica was my first "real" knife. It is great for EDC(everyday carry) It would really depend on what you want to do with your knife. I love my paramilitary 2 but it is a little big for EDC for me.

WELCOME! Be sure to explore the subforums too - lots of good info to be found.

I would recommend you go with something lower than the PM2 or Griptilian until you know what you really like.

The Delica and Endura are Spyderco's top sellers and for good reason - damn good knives. The Delica is what made me luv Spydercos. Tenacious ain't no slouch either.

The Ontario RAT 2 and Cold Steel Mini Recon 1 are good ones too.

I found the PM2 and Griptilian a bit too large for me to EDC. But, if you're a big guy, then they might be just the thing. Also consider the Ontario RAT1. And the Cold Steel Recon 1, Lawman, or Code 4, all in CTS-XHP.

Thanks to all of you guys for you recomendations and information of the knives i am interested on.

If it's your "1st knife", and you really plan on " getting into knives", personally, my suggestion is put $20 aside for a cheap little sharpener like a smith's 3in1 or a lansky turnbox,
and then start off a bit on the cheaper end, like $40-$60 or so, and throw a medium 4" fixed blade into the purchase as well, even if it's just a cheap Mora Companion, or Case Ridgeback...

That way you're covered on 3 ends;, fixed, folder, and basic sharpening system, just so you can get a chance to use the hell out of 'em, wear 'em out, and also practice and learn to sharpen 'em back up without ruining a "good" blade. This way you can figure out what you like about 'em, don't like,, handle and blade size, ergo's, profile, clip, etc. And you can save up for a nicer purchase with more knowledge of knives in general, use, sharpening, as well as a much better idea of what you would be looking for specifically...

Top one's thatvcome to mind are;
Spyderco Delica or even a cheaper Tenacious
Cold Steel Finn Wolf, or an aus8 model
Kershaw Blur, or a decent cheaper model like a link, volt II, or scrambler

All the knives you are interested are good, check these out as well.

Spyderco sage 1 or 2
Spyderco Native 5

Can't beat those for $100. All decent sized with a 3" blade and run s30v or better that doesn't weigh a ton.

Well i measured a knife and its pretty common but 4 inches the handle i feel confortable and 3.5 feel good also. The blade size I would like almost anything between 2.5 to 3.5.

I have just 1 mean that is a sharpening stone with polishing too dont know exactly the grade.

I dont have much experience on sharpening knives just basic stuff sharpening my small victorinox classic.

I kinda like classic knives but 1 hand operation will be awesome so i may like both.

I will carry it on the street. I dont want a knife that will look like a threat to people. And the use will be opening blister packs (very nasty sometimes you know what I mean with that hard plastic) and cutting some paper and maybe some fruits.

Aaand I kinda forget about carbon steel so I don't have experience with carbon steel

Delicas, Enduras from Spyderco. As well as Griptilians & mini Grips from Benchmade.
All have multiple options for handle colors. Light blue, pink, yellow, green.

My reccomendation would be one of those. I would go Mini Grip myself for the fun factor of Axis lock vs. lockback. But none of those would be a bad choice.

Others 2 consider
Spyderco: Native 5, Stretch, Manix2LW, Sage1,

Cold Steel (decent quality, but may be too "tactical" for you): Recon1, Mini Recon1, Code4, Ultimate Hunter, American Lawman.

Benchmade: Barrage, Mini Barrage

Kershaw: Blur, Skyline

Cold steel American lawman. Awesome knife. Or Code 4 in clip point. Or griptiliian if you want less tactical. The Delica was my first real knife also. Great knife too. A lot of good options.

I dont have much experience on sharpening knives just basic stuff sharpening my small victorinox classic.

If you don't have diamond or ceramic stuff, and you don't have confidence in freehanding on SiC sandpaper, then stick with the simpler steels.
12c and 13c series, 1084/1095/1095cv, inox, even aeb-l should be easy for you to manage.

You might be able to keep a working edge on most steels, but once they get too far gone, you will have a hard time bringing them back into use. That is No fun...

I would suggest an opine or two, and some decent sharpening gear. Grab some fallkniven double sided diamond/ceramic plates, or dmt plates in coarse and fine and a ceramic rod or plate.

You will get further along with any knife with the ability to sharpen anything you purchase.
But, regarding knives alone, I would look into the buck vantage in 13c, opinel, cold steel, svord, spyderco manix 2, and plenty of Benchmades.
