Ive got about 45 dollars to spend on a knife and I want to know what you think I should Get. I was thinking of getting a couple of moras or the sheap finn bear and belt knife cold steels or maybe a mora 2000 and 510. Or should I get a buck 119 or kabar or some other knife?

Thanks,

Is this just a general purpose belt knife for while out and about?
Or are you looking for a hunting knife?

Well, do you have any specific use you're looking to use it for? If you just want to buy a knife to satisfy that craving for a new piece of sharp steel that most of us are so familiar with, I don't think you could go wrong with any of the ones you've listed. If you're interested in a nice khukri, you could check out the Himalayan Imports forum and look for their deal of the day posts. Every now and then something really nice comes up there for 45 bucks or less.

That will come close to getting you a Mora for $10 (the 510 is the correct choice :D), a Fiskars hatchet for $20, and a good Swiss Army Knife like the Soldier/Farmer/OH Trekker/whatever for around $20. Then you've spent around 50 bucks and have a ridiculously cool combo. (Of course, the hatchet should be ignored if you're not in a wooded area, and a good machete sort of blade if you're in a jungly area. Just my two cents on that one...)

Perfect choices. The only tiny change would be for a mora 780! I don't leave home without it!

Thnx for your combo reccomendation but id just like to jay im pretty much looking for a knife. I already own a swisstool and swisschamp.

Well, that spooky said, good tools for the job and they wont break the bank.

But only for the knife, a Buck 192(not sure the total price) but its the Vanguard model, in rubber and wood handles.

dude i was gonna say the exact same damn thing! I carry a Grohmann R4 Survival, Swiss One Hand Trekker, and Fiskars Hatchet while i'm out and about.

but if you just want a utility beater for camping and hiking.

get yourself a bushman from cold steel. i've still got mine after all this while and its taken a beating that'd put other knives in the price range to shame :D

if you have a bit of extra cash go and talk to normark (eric) at on scene tactical for a custom kydex sheath with a firesteel loop. you wont be disappointed.

cheers

Definitely go for the M2K, absolutely perfect for general camping or hiking IMO.

I say a mora 760 and or 780 either way I like the craftsman patern! I don't have the 2000 but Im sure it's great. So I say go with your choice of the mora's.

Out of your choices I would probably opt for a 5 inch kabar. All of your choices are good though.

Both the Mora 2K and the green 760/780 are issued as a basic knife for the Swedish army.
They are great knives and the 760/780 cost almost nothing and can be used for everything and you dont have to be worried if you break it, just get a new one, and a new one.
One knife company here in Sweden they even sell Mora knife clones (any type of 4" blade with plastic handle) in packs of ten without the sheath to carpenters since you destroy the knife but not the sheath.

If you want a camping knife for the occasional outdoor experience (bbq with the kids, fishing trip and such) where you can walk home when it rains sort of, you can buy a bunch of cheap Mora clones and throw around. Then you use them as knives, pry bars or anything. If you on the other hand want a knife that will help you through the amazones....

Well, about any knife will do it is more a matter of taste and what you want to pay for it.
You can survive with a mora clone and die with a super duper extra special survival system. It is all in your head.

Never touched a 780, but the handle is the same as my 760, which I like and the blade is supposed to be the toughest that Frost puts out. High carbon steel that's differencially heat treated for harder edge. If you live in a wet environment, a little extra maintenance to keep the blade rust free, or go with a stainless model like the Mora 2000, which is an excellent bush knife.
