What should I keep in my schoolbag?

I'd augment or replace the Zippo with a Bic. The Zippos dry out inconveniently frequently.

Maybe a small LED light?

I'm not a smoker, so I don't use it very much.

That reminds me-- being a "campus survival kit," a goodly supply of condoms is indicated.

Not on my Campus :( Or I'm too nerdy :P
(to be honest, it's because I'm too nice: "I can't do this, you're too drunk...")

Like they say, Nice Guys finish last.

I feel for you. I was with my gf for a year before I went away to school (very much not directly out of high school) and this distance shit sucks a major... But on a seperate note, I use my keychain-mounted photon II all the time.

Before you load that sucker up up with goodies, consider what happened to the last one. If I were you, I would stick to really cheap, easily replaceable stuff, especially if stuff goes missing at your school. An Opinel (which you had), a 1st aid kit in a ziploc bag and a bic lighter cover the basics for school. Zippos, SAKS, leathermans and neato flashlights are great, but buying them every three months or so could get expensive. Or, you could simply carry your gear in a sack labelled "dirty diapers". Would deter even the most determined thief :D Just my .02

Definatley a multi tool and/or SAK. A multi gives you a bunch of screwdrivers/pliers/wire cutters/blade/beer opener:cool: /etc...

The newer Leatherman tools seem to be pretty well versed with urban stuff (small screwdrivers for electronics and stuff like that.) and they don't look like some mean military tool, so they won't attract any unwanted attention.

They don't dry out from use, they just dry out period. It's not air tight, so the fluid evaporates over time from the stuffing. I just shoot a bit of fluid in mine about once every other week (I don't use it often though, not a smoker). It's good for burning the ends of paracord or heating up a needle to melt through plastic..
