What should I know before buying my first knife??

I have a prepared post for just such questions.....

"Why not save up a little more $ and buy something a ton better....how about an OKC rat 1 or 2? you just need to put together another $15.00"

Rough Rider has a great reputation. There is a thread on them and the related low cost knives over in the traditional forums. I have around 15 Rough Riders, not a lemon in the bunch.
I have a couple M-Tech knives, don't use or carry them though. I decided I really don't care for "modern" folders.

As someone else mentioned, a Buck 110 is a great knife, but it costs a bit more than $20, even at Walmart. A Buck 301 or 371 Stockman can be had in your budget. Great knife and a forever guarantee. Don't let anyone tell you the 420HC Buck uses will not do the job. NO ONE does a better heat treat on 420HC than Buck. I believe Case and a few others use the same steel. 90% or more of users do not need a "super steel".
An Opinel is also a good choice. You can spend a LOT more for a knife and it probably will not slice better than an Opinel. The Opinel is available with carbon steel or stainless steel blades.
The thing is, you do not have to spend a lot to get a good knife, no matter what some tell you. There are knives just as good as say, a Case, for a fraction of the cost.

-Less than $20
-Preferably a 'folder' knife (pocket knife)
-Not too bulky
-Decent quality

What do you guys think of this MTech knife? Looks really cool.

And also, what are the dangers with some knives?
I do have common sense to answer that, but I'd like to ask you guys for your opinion because i'm no expert in the realm of knife ownership.

Cheers mates.

Anything made by MTech is absolute garbage...be realistic, do you actually think that a $7 knife is going to be quality at all? Short answer, it's not. You get a lot of quality knives for $25, Kershaw and Ontario in particular come to mind.

Stay away from MTech or anything similar, they're like the Raven Arms of knives.

I recommend you read this thread and then delete your account. If you stick around here you will be starting a thread a year from now asking for recommendations for a new EDC knife under $200. Don't say you weren't warned.

As well as the knives above, any knife by Rough Rider, Ganzo, Enlan or San Ren Mu will be better than an mtech and will cost around $12-30.

Lol @tdkfm yup that's about right maybe sooner.it took me about 30 days now I can't stop.worst than crack.but hey we could be doing worst things with our time right guys?but we love cold steel in our hands

Joe Pardue Utilitac 2 ALL THE FREAKIN WAY. Do the research on this knife and borrow the 4 extra dollars.
