What should my one knife at the end of summer be?

Here is a bit of advice (since you asked) that I wish I had been given while I was in school. Unless you are very rich, a better idea would be to buy a Spyderco Domino (or Dice) flipper and then open an Edward Jones account or buy US Savings Bonds with the rest.

I'd stay as far away from the bond market as possible right now. Silver bars are cheap though. :D

I can't relate to the OP on this one. I'm buying a knife to carry for the summer, and it's going to be cheap(ish) and light. A Dragonfly, though I haven't yet figured out which version.

If i were you i would get a large sabenza! I have the small one now and am saving up for the large

I love myStrider SNG DGG, but honestly if your willing to spend $700 get a Damascus double stud sebenza 21 with cf scale. The Damascus next to carbon fiber just looks soo sexy

Olamic makes great knives! They have new models that are supposed to be released sometime this year.

I'd also suggest an André Thorburn, his flippers flip like they're made with magic. I know that sounds dumb, but the action is just absolutely amazing. They look sexy, and quality is phenomenal too.

A Matt Diskin Fire may spark your interest too. It's an auto, but I'd suggest watching a video on how it works before you dismiss it due to being automatic. These however, are becoming slightly hard to find.

Yes, the Southard AVO is Brad's mid-tech knife...all made by him except for some screws and things which he gets from a third party. I've had a few customs in the 500-750 dollar range, and this knife just feels so nice in my hand. The closed length is 4 1/2" so fits my hand better than the larger Sebenza or Zaan.
Here is a review I did on two Southard folders...Brad's mid-tech AVO and his Spyderco collaboration Southard flipper. I showed the "blade" flipper model.

I don't have any customs but man, it's tough to beat a lefty large Sebenza in any trim you want. I've been eying those micarta in lays.

The Domino comes in a striking blue weave black carbon fiber and Titanium, or a black cubic check carbon fiber and titanium. http://www.knifeworks.com/search.aspx?find=domino

Not a bad idea to consider, but I get it if you want to have that "one" that is a special treat within your fiscal budget.

I've had my eye out for a lefty micarta large 21 for awhile now, but seems they're harder to find than hen's teeth haha
