I've started carrying my knife at my waistband, and I will probably be sizing down from my Endura 4 Wave to a Delica 4 Wave for comfort. I was thinking it should be an adequate size.
I occasionally carry my 5.5 inches Camillus Maxx, but I usually carry my Endura which I find ideal.
Just was curious on everyone else's take on the size of knives.

I guess 3.5-4.5 is most comfortable for EDC, but if given the chance, who wouldn't carry around a <7" fixed blade? :D

For all around general purpose I love 3.5. Not much one cannot do with that size and I really love my Kershaw Deerhunter I bought in the 80's.

5-6" fixed-blades are best for tougher chores around camp or home.
4" for folders & light-duties like cutting rope or packaging.

3.5-4" for EDC. 2.5-3.5" Fixed EDC. Anything less is cool but I need that "count on it" feeling of security to cover larger tasks.

3.5" is my size. Nothing under 3", just not enough blade, and little over 3.5" and it starts to feel unwieldy, especially for edc.

3" is ideal, but I'll above or below depending on the situation. I find anything more than 3.5" to be useless on folders.

When I went to school, my EDC was about 2.8", because that was the biggest students were allowed to carry. Now that I've graduated, I switched to a 3.5" tha used to be just for camping.

I often carry a fixed blade such as my Busse SjTac or DABA, in addition to some folders. I have been buying and rotating a bunch of folders lately, otherwise I would be carrying my Cuda Maxx 7.0 tip up as well. I always have a large knife in my backpack- either a Battle Mistress, Rat Daddy, or Battle Rat.

2.5~3.5 " for general use.

one less than 2.5" also comes in handy at times. So I carry two. 3" for main, 2" for backup / small task.

4" to 5" for a horizontal carry and maybe up to 6" for verticle carry. Sometimes I will stretch it to a 7" fixed blad for verticle carry. Oh,yeah and a Fahrman Tru Hikers for my neck carry.

Ciao

I carry a hiker SAK and either a Manix, Rat-1, or Chinook as edc so I guess my answer there is 2.5 to 3.5. When hiking, I will usually have a Fallkniven F1 and a larger fixed blade along usually either a battle rat, Ka-bar heavy, or one of the big beckers(bk1 brute or bk7). My main gripe with most knives is the handle size. Many knives have handles 4.5 inches or less and that just doesn't cut it for me. My ideal hiking knife would be a Fallkniven F1 blade attached to an A1 or a Battle Rat handle. I love 5 inch handles.

my new blade is 2 inches or a little more, if any. i feel that this is all i need for cutting things and if i had to use it for defense, i feel confident that slashes in the appropriate place will immobilize any attacker.. this blade is SHARPPPPP!!!:)
