Gotta go 3.5 - 4.5. It's long enough for most cutting tasks, sufficient size for use as a weapon, and yet small enough to not freak most people out. Also, hopefully, small enough to not get busted for.

I like small blades in big handles. My current carry folder is a 2.5" blade with a 4.4" handle.

in tennessee, ANYTHING over 4.00 inches is ILLEGAL. i cant carry my benchmade fecas 440c fixed blade because it is 4.11 inches long! what bullshit, i know!!!! so i carry my benchmade 160 tetherknife.

I prefer the 2.5 - 3.5. They seem more practical to carry and use everyday. However, I am still interested in getting a 2" blade for universal carry.

cactus, get what i bought today! it is a great knife and i think that its great for cutting or normal use then if ya had to use it for defense it would stand to the call! IMO

What knife is that?

I'm always interested in what STR carries.
I'm surprised to see more people carrying smaller blades. Blades 2.5 to 3.5 inches. I would have thought members here would like larger knives.

Its the one in my signiture line. I just made it the other day for myself. Others that I favor are ones like the Dodo, the Para Military, and the new Delica 4 from Spyderco, but I also favor some of the BenchMade knives like the HK34 and 420 Resistor. My favorite BM is an old 505 Monarch with the Gamesman blade though. Great knife and super handle. They really need to reintroduce that one in my opinion. These last three are big blades for me though. I usually find a 2.5" to 3" blade is more than adequate for anything I do and a 4" to 5" handle is just great.

I find that 2.5-3" does it for me--about the size of my small Sebenza or BM940D2 is just right.

You have a 4" blade limit, even with a CCW license? Man, that's harsh--you guys have it good with the gun laws, though. I can carry around a 12" bowie if I want, concealed or open carry, no permit necessary, and I live in Massachusetts!

My Florida non-resident carry permit allows me to carry a slung shot and auto knife, but since I never travel there I've never obtained any of those. :D

2.5" to 3.5" seem to find their way into my pockets the most, I feel that they're the most versatile sizes, actually that's why I like the older traditional multiblade slipjoints, they give you a choice of blade lengths, blade patterns, and degrees of sharpness all in one package.

I prefer 3.5" to 4.5" with 4" being just about perfect.
Less than 3" just does'nt seem to be enough blade for overall utility.

I've been carrying a 3.9" S30V folding tactical blade for a few years now. It took some getting used to for detail work, (with the tip of the drop point shaped blade).
Before that I was carrying a 3.5" clip shaped folder. It was cool cause it had a little corkscrew as well as a real blade. But it was average idiot 440 steel and it just didn't hold an edge. Plus it wasn't one handed opening.

I would be thrilled to find a one handed opening 3.5"-4" S30V or ATS-34 folder (with a drop point or a clip or a tanto shaped blade) with just a corkscrew as an additional tool.
Have yall seen such a critter?
Thanks a bunch,

3"-3.5" in a folder. Something like my Ares, 940, 921, Calypso, Jr., 635, or Harpy. Much over 3.5" and I find it's uncomfortable in my pocket and illegal in many of my local municipalities

There is always a Howling Rat in my EDC bag.

after watching that joe perry vid on the darrel ralph site those thin ground long (7") mad max blades just looked nice for eating.

i got a 42 the other day and tried eating a steak dinner with its weehawk blade. i fell in love. i find my open 42 reminds me of one of those mad maxx' or cuda maxx' . i like all sizes..i guess 2.5-3.5 though but what im saying is that it depends on the profile.

I carry a folder 100% of the time, 2.5" to 3.5". I also carry a fixed blade EDC when I'm not working, 3.5" to 4".

rob, tennessee knife carrying laws are rediculous man... i can carry my glock 9mm about anywhere but i cant carry my Fecas benchmade blade because it is 4.11 inches long... bullshit? yea i think so.

i am a sucker for fixed blades so i just got the benchmade tetherknife(160)... people might think this knife isnt much but a 2 inch blade can cut anything i need to cut and if i should ever have to cut someone in defense of my life, i think 2 inch stab wounds would really hurt.. and make you bleed out pretty fast. dont ya think?

I would have never guessed TN of all states would have a knife-length limit--I mean you're in a shall-issue state that allows open carry!

On the other hand, you've probably heard about Massachusetts' tough laws. We have no blade-length limit. We can't possess double bladed knives or autos over 1.5", but for a regular old 1-bladed knife, there is no length limit.

Its' also true that it's hard to get a LTC, but once you do, you can carry in places prohibited in most other states: bars, restaurants that serve alcohol, churches, even police stations if there are no town bylaws prohibiting it (in mine it's permitted with no duty to notify!). Getting the LTC is the major hurdle, followed by a minor hurdle of selecting a firearm on the "approved roster". Once you get past that things are actually pretty good for those who carry.

With a 4" limit I hope you at least get to carry a 4" auto. :D

3-4 inches.

I pretty much like the Small Sebenza size, and the Large Sebenza size. While I own and love knives that are smaller and bigger, the smaller ones feel like mini-knives and the larger ones feel huge.

for smallish full-size knives I like my MOD ATFK and Buck Mayo TNT. For larger knives I like my Large Classic Sebenza, Kershaw Spec Bump, and Strider SMF.
